California won't follow. The Teacher's Union here won't allow it. Even in NYC, the hardest COVID hit area in the US, the public schools opened. None of the largest districts in California did despite the Governor believing schools safe enough to send his own kids to in-person learning. Gavin is more afraid of the Teacher's Union than he is of COVID.
The various California teacher's union heads seized upon comments from scientists that bars should not be opened before schools, and so have fought to get bars closed so they can keep schools closed. Gavin has tried offering huge cash incentives to lure schools to open only to have the California Teacher's Unions to label him racist.
Unless the numbers get crazy good I think San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area could stay closed until June 15th (the last day of the school year).
