Keep it coming, Ry. Love it, bud! Now that I know I'm not going back to my other job for a while, I'll probably be pouring a lot more focus into baseball. Really excited to see what the Padres are capable of in a condensed format.

I didn't get a chance (yet) to read any of last nights recap.
But late last night, my west coast Padres buddies on group chat didn't seem particularly pleased with the offense, LOL. Overreaction city? Almost always. I saw alot of venom in the comments page of the Padres facebook posts, alot of it aimed at Hedges, but we know the quality of idiots on that forum.
Not entirely sure the offense has much "teeth" in the middle, so much depends what sort of years Pham, Hosmer, and Myers have. Can Naylor step up and post a .750 to .800 OPS with pop?
Here's what Athletic predicts as the lineup:
SS Tatis CD Grisham 3B Machado LF Pham 1B Hosmer RF Myers DH Naylor 2B Profar C Hedges
BENCH:
Mejia Greg Garcia France Cronenworth Olivares
After being a big time prospect 5 years ago, Profar - let's face it, the dude can't hit much. Nice glove, mediocre stick. Therefore, if Naylor struggles, the bottom 1/3 of the lineup is going to be an easy turn through for many pitchers. I've given up on Hedges being even remotely useful at the plate, thankfully he is a good DEF catcher. He's one of the least productive hitters in the National League.
I like the rotation, love the 'pen.

I like the rotation, love the 'pen. Last night wasn't pretty. Some bad luck on the pitching side (BABIP-related bloops, off the glove type stuff) but the lack of quality approach and inability to recognize spin bothered me. Bats looked slow - Manny swinging through 93 down the middle twice. Only one plate appearance longer than 4 pitches through the first 5 innings. Not enough situational awareness with a struggling pitcher in Robles in the 7th - Hosmer works a 7 pitch AB for a base hit, Myers strikes out on 3 pitches. Profar works a 6 pitch walk, Hedges strikes out on 4 pitches. It's one exhibition game that doesn't mean a ton, but the bats have to start out hot.

Quick off topic....
Let me tell you guys, if Mejia is a contributor at all, the trade worked out well for SD.
You didn't need Brad Hand any longer, and Adam Cimber is complete TRASH. I can't stand watching him pitch.
Sucked most of last year, and allowed 4 straight Pirates to get on last night. He was "good" for half a season for SDP.

Based on the game last night......
-France looks like a player, he will hit .270 with at least 10 HR’s. -Trammel looked a bit overmatched, one more season in AA. I know it’s early and just one game but he was turned inside out last night. -Pagan and the bullpen, just nasty. -Lineup needs to find their timing SOON, a slow start will mean ANOTHER sub par season. -You have to be happy for Richards, he looks like he is back to his old effective self. Good for him, stay healthy. -Something tells me Tatis is going to get hot early, hit 20+ hr in the first 50 games and lead the league. -I want to see Campusano and Abrams, soon. Hedges hits like a pitcher. -The runner on second extra innings rule is good, nobody likes a 16 inning marathon.

There is no AA this year though - So you run the risk of stalling out development for some of the "older" prospects. Most of the minor league hitters are not getting a ton of reps in intrasquad games. The MLB guys have gotten the lion's share of the AB's to sharpen their approaches before the season starts. Taylor will likely be a fringy 30 man guy though.

I took him 15th overall in my Yahoo league w/ buddies, five slots after I drafted Soto. Took Tatis when Scherzer, J.D. Martinez, Rendon, and Freeman were all still available. Not a homer pick, I think he has the ability to be a 35/35 or 40/40 guy in a normal, full season. Let's hope he shines in this abbreviated season.

It's hard to award Trammel playing time in a sprint of a season, when he has never hit consistently in the minors.
