Would Steve McClain, fired from UIC, accept an assistant coaches position with SDSU? The Show would have fun with this.

I am just glad to know I am not the only one that has those same exact thoughts every time that I see a post by Stan. I know he means well but someone needs to take his red stapler.

Yanni Wetzel's old coach who lead Vandy to an 0-19 record in the SEC? Who went 40-59 at Vandy before being fired after three years into a six year contract? But Drew can recruit and I suppose Grand Canyon thinks there's some Valpo magic left in him.

The last head coach we got from Wyoming was a bust.

The last head coach we got from Wyoming was a bust. That would be Jim Brandenburg, a successful coach elsewhere who came into a perfectly awful situation on the Mesa. One problem was that Marty Dow, a 7ft center, was injured for the balance of the season (1990?), costing us a winning season. Worse, we had to play in the Sports Arena while the neighbors waged an ultimately unsuccessful legal campaign to prevent the building of the on-campus arena. ( wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Brandenburg_(basketball)) Those were the days of nickel and dime support for sports at SDSU. Just look at the coaches hired between Brandenburg and Fisher. AzWm

AzWm Yep, I'm well aware who that coach was. He was so successful at Wyoming I couldn't believe he would have even better success in San Diego. Of course, it's not really unusual for a coach to do well one place and not another.

I firmly believe Brandenburg came here to retire! Which means what? That he planned on relaxing and deliberately doing less than his best? I seriously doubt that any coach aims to do that. As long as we are on that topic, are you suggesting that Dutcher may have accepted his job here because he planned to retire at SDSU? That he doesn't care much how that Aztecs do? Frankly, I hope that he does plan to retire here. AzWm

AzWm Do I think he tried not to do his best, no I don’t but I wasn’t the only one who thought the relaxed lifestyle may have contributed to him directly or indirectly not going all out. Only he could tell you if he let up on his intensity in recruiting or coaching. Just my musings. And Dutcher was younger than Brandenburg. Totally different circumstances!
