And does USU, which currently sits at 48 in the NET rankings, have any shot whatsoever of making the Tourney as an at-large team?
Discuss.
Their remaining games are:
@colo. St. @fresno St. Wyoming San Jose St. @new Mexico

Ideally, we would want Utah State to finish with as high a ranking as possible so that if we play them in the MWCT it would be a Q1 game. If they win out, losing only to us, they would have a legit shot at a lower seed bid (10-12ish). A loss to Colorado State tonight might not kill them, but it would make a bid less likely, as they're flirting with the bubble now.

I would say we want Utah St to win. If they keep winning we have a chance at another Q1 win in the conference tournament. Also, I think Utah St is the 2nd best team in the conference so I would like them to finish 2nd or 3rd in the standings so we wouldn’t play them until the finals at which point Quetta’s legs might fall off after playing 3 straight days.

We want USU to win because: 1) When we win tonight we would clinch outright, the MW season crown. Hang that banner! 2) USU winning out make our Ws look and measure better. 3) The possibility of another Q1 game in the MWCT. 4) Winning out and losing to us in the MWCT Finals might still get them in MM and that's more $ for SDSU in the long run

I can see why we'd want Utah State to win to give us another shot of a Q1 victory. What's the argument for anyone rooting for CSU?

I'd like to see Utah State get its act together and claim the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament. I'd hate to have to face them before the final. Palm has them in the NCAA field for a play-in game, so winning up until the conference final should get them in. They're definitely a tourney quality team when they're right, as they were in Nov/Dec.
Utah State is No. 48 in the NET rankings.
Can't think of any reason to prefer CSU. In terms of helping us, they're No. 95 in NET. Just don't see a big upside for us if the Rams win.

I can see why we'd want Utah State to win to give us another shot of a Q1 victory. What's the argument for anyone rooting for CSU? The only argument would be if you believe they could rise from 95 NET to 75 NET with a string of victories, adding a Q1 win to our resume. I tend to think that's impossible, given 3 of their final 6 games are Quad 4s. IMO they'd need to win out, including a win over us, to get there. Them beating us would defeat the advantage of adding a Q1, so a moot point. No real reason to root for CSU unless you're a fan of their team or hate USU.

The bigger picture is the AZTECS want Utah State to be a mwc tournament 2 or 3 seed meaning we could only play them in the mwc championship game. So Utah State in a close game. The focus needs to be on defeating new mexico to clinch a tie for the league title. A csu win allows the AZTECS to clinch outright with a win at Boise Sunday.
