After game he was on the CBS panel. Three panelists were discussing SDSU, how far they could go. All positive and interesting. Then this stiff, Wally S, opens his mouth and starts to unload on the Aztecs that they won't go undefeated. It's like he as to push the Big Red off the track. Wally, the Aztecs, are a feel good story. Go with it. Guy's stiff and dresses like a fool. The guy said he didn’t think we’d go undefeated in conference. OMG WHAT A HATER! Seriously people get over it. Did he say, “The Aztecs SUCK so there’s no way they’re going undefeated!”? C’mon, if anything he was giving the MWC enough props to not allow a conference member to go through an entire conference season unscathed. Exactly. Some cred for our league.

Waddya expect? His name is Wally, after all. He is entitled to his own opinion, but you could call him: Wally Weisel!

You can call him what you want but generally Szczerbiak is very level headed and honest with his commentary. I respect the guy. It's like how many on Aztecmesa (and elsewhere) used to bag on Jay Bilas for being an ACC/Power Conference honk. Then in 2011 when the Aztecs were actually deserving he was perhaps the only talking head on Selection Sunday making the argument that SDSU could've/should've been a No.1 Seed. He also, rightly, railed against the inclusions of UAB and VCU over more deserving teams from power conferences, decisions based almost solely on the much maligned RPI.

Las I checked it’s a free country. Wally can think whatever he wants, and is paid to do so. I see no issue. Must not get paid enough to have his barber trim those caterpillars on his face...

Understandably so since that's his school Actually he's not. That's what I respect about the guy. When Duke deserves it he rips them as he's done this season. Just watch a few games that he calls on ESPN, the guy shoots straight and DOES NOT overly favor Duke. I mean listen, Duke is a GREAT basketball program, there are no two ways about it. So if a Duke alum happens to give them props when they deserve it, if that's being a "honk" then so be it. But Bilas doesn't reserve his superlatives for the Blue Devils, to me THAT would be a honk. As an example, here are his comments back in 2011 about the Aztecs: Bilas: “I would put the Buckeyes number 1 overall, that’s not the way I would go with the number 1 seeds. That’s probably the way it’s going to come out (Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, Pitt) with those number 1 seeds, I would go Ohio State, Kansas, I would put Duke in there and I would put San Diego State in there. I would put San Diego State out West.” Reese Davis: “Why?” Bilas: “I think San Diego State, they have won more road games, they’ve won 20 games against the top 100, they’ve only lost two games on the season, just two. They’ve played more road games than any other team we’re talking about. They’ve done everything that the committee says you’re supposed to do, everything. They have tested themselves on the road like crazy. If you can go 32 and 2 with your only losses against a top 4 team when they were a complete team, in BYU, and then you win your conference tournament right after that and don’t get a number 1 seed then San Diego State is incapable of ever getting one, incapable. I think they should have it.”

He's Duke fan due to his relationship as a player and alumnus. That's exactly how he acts towards them. And yes, he does give other teams props. But, it's not in the same manner. I like the guy. There's nothing wrong with being a fan of your school.

In his private life is he a "fan"?, I have no doubt that he is. But I'll wager you'd be hard pressed to show me some evidence that he favors Duke over others when it is clearly not warranted. And the guy absolutely knows his $#!+ about basketball.

Back to Szczerbiak...I saw the segment and had no real problem with what he said. I think it's the safe thing to say at this point, because the odds of running the table are stacked against us. I would have more respect for an analyst to come out and say he thinks they will run the table and tell me exactly why. That would be a guy who is going out on a limb.

He was called out on his "SDSU will lose a game" comment during today's Wyoming sdsu halftime break. He's changing his tune, showing more faith in SDSU and is singing more praises. Oldie Out

I remember this thread from 2015 when the name Gary Parrish was substituted for Wally Szczerbiak! Did you guys listen to Gary Parrish after the Wyoming game? He seems to be on the SDSU bandwagon right now - really high on this team seeing us as a #1 seed that could go undefeated during the regular season. I was a bit shocked.
