We just beat Utah by 28 points. 28 points. The disrespect some are still giving this Aztecs basketball team is appalling. Bring it on. That's just bulletin board material. Motivation. Barring injuries this is a Sweet 16 team, maybe Elite 8. While i agree with the sentiment, and am not trying to be pedant, but this is still a team that barely beat sjsu on a last second shot. I dont write that to diminish our team, but just to point out in a one and done situation anything can happen. For certain we are a very good team, but even very good teams get upset- sometimes in march. I hope we make the final four, but even if wr get bumped early we are a very good team We need to remember the SJSU game but also remember that a bunch of highly-ranked teams have gone down to lesser teams already this year. We didn't. That's college basketball. Kids have off days and often don't recover. But we did. I've been trying to hold down my enthusiasm for this team and try to be more "realistic" but I'm ready to start assuming they'll be in MM and won't go out easy. |

All I can say is that at the beginning of the game, the way we were playing defense, I knew we wouldn't lose this game. Early we were also dominating on offense which got us up by double digits. We made some poor decisions on offense to keep this from being a blowup on offense. A couple of plays I want to put a spotlight on: 1. At about 8 Minutes left in the first half Matt Mitchell throws a pass into Nate. That was one helluva great pass. 2. Don't recall exactly when but J Mensah got a pass and turned it into a layup, also in the first half. Just showed me that he has some great potential and already shows outstanding athleticism. I have to say, I do think that Yanni Wetzell is the best grad transfer we have ever had. Yep, even better than Josh Davis. I don't know why his numbers at Vanderbilt were so pedestrian, but he can be a monster when he gets the ball low in the post. This is a great win for the program given Utah just beat Kentucky. We really have solidified out OOC record. They were so impressive in person. These guys are legit and are really good. I think they realize that - but - They just need to stay humble, focused, keep grinding/working. Great things lay ahead, some pretty good stuff accomplished already. Super pumped and proud of these guys |

what a pair of burial wins for AZTECS today. great basketball fan support today. AZTECS fans better get the tickets Monday as the rest of the home games should sell out. then it is the AZTECS FANS turn to invade Las Vegas for the conference tournament with over 6,000 AZTECS FANS. I will be in Vegas.

WTF with Don MacLean's comment at the end that we're a "pretty good for a Mountain West team?" What a butthurt little b¡tch.  Don MacLean and Mike Montgomery: A-hole brothers from another Mother!  Would have loved to see Kentucky beat OSU today but it didn't happen. Stiil, we won a college football bowl game, took out a PAC-12 team on a neutral court who just downed the #6 team in the nation so I really can't complain. I just want to see us play this type of defense the rest of the year. If we do, we sweep the conference because our offense is, perhaps, the best we have seen on the Mesa. |
