Pham was a 20/25 guy last year with the highest fielding percentage of any left fielder in baseball. Career .373 OBP. Second lowest swinging strike percentage of any player in baseball. This is a MAJOR upgrade for a team starving for guys that won't swing and miss.

i like Pham. i dont like losing Edwards. he had good makeup. Loved X, but I think his swing limits his ceiling. Abrams is a better version of Edwards and has a higher ceiling. X is the #6 rated prospect in the Padre system.

I thought he was the 2B of the future after trading Urias. Unless we got a good prospect back from the Rays, which doesn't sound too likely. Pham also getting up there in age, 32 next year. I think AJ's decisions so far this off-season have been questionable. High risk trades as well as risky manager hire.

He is 2 years away.

He is 2 years away. True, but still think Edwards is going to be very good. Would have been a perfect lead off hitter. I'm not sold on Profar either.

Doesn't really mean much. Renfroe is who he is at this point. Ok, well that doesn’t really mean a lot. Kinda does when he is deeply flawed as a player. Platoon guy who has never hit right handed pitching with any kind of consistency. Pham's exactly the type of player the Padres need.

I like all of the moves, up until this one. Pham is a good player, but Renfroe has 40+ HR upside. That’s the name of the game right now, winning successful teams all hit 250+ home runs last year, (Dodgers, Twins, Yankees, Astros) Preller has unloaded his two top power hitters.
I think this could be a trade too far.

I think this could be a trade too far. His top two power hitters who struggled to make consistent contact. Everyone hit home runs last year. Literally. This deal is a home run for the Padres.

Hunter Renfroe's total career on base percentage is .294. Tommy Pham's career batting average is just 17 points lower, .277.

Since 2017, his first full year with St. Louis, Tommy Pham has posted the highest WAR (FanGraphs) of any left fielder in baseball. If you widen the parameters to include all outfielders, he is 7th. The guys in front of him are all superstars : Trout, Betts, Yelich, Judge, Bellinger and Springer.

I can’t argue with having Pham, he is an established performer who consistently hits. I just see Renfroe hitting 40+ hr and becoming an all star, tough to part with that.
Ok, so the OF is Pham, Grisham, Myers (for now) with Naylor, Margot, Cordero and Profar/Mejia as depth. Athletic, speedy well rounded hitters who fill out a broader stat line.
