He is not a "big time" supporter of SDSU.This is a just a job for him. He gets to do and say whatever he wants and nobody cares. Why don't we have an SDSU alum be the voice of the Aztecs? True, at least for most of his career in San Diego. But we don't necessarily need an alum to get an announcer who's a big time supporter. Ron Reina was not an alum. He was a huge Aztec supporter. He was also very good on the radio. I miss Ron doing the broadcasts. Anything is better than Leitner. Just think it would be good to give jobs to SDSU grads.

I've seen Scot Yoffee on TV and heard him on the radio for a couple of Padre games. He'd be great. The fact he loves the Aztecs is a plus.

He was the announcer back when I was traveling with the team. I traveled with the team some after Teddy became the announcer. Ron was much friendlier and more approachable than Ted.

Interesting side note - Both Ron Reina and Ted worked in college athletics as a Sports Information Director - essentially Mike May's job Ron was also the first promotions director at State in the early 1970's (He was SID at Pacific in the 60's)

Imagine how good our offense would be had we bothered to offer McDonald from Sonora HS. Dude took a last minute offer to a school he never even visited. Hey, things like that happen every year with all schools. You never really know for sure how good a player will be until he suits up and plays his first game, or second game, or third game. There is no absolute way to get all the unknowns/sleeper players every year. He might have entered school here and been a complete washout. He just happened to work out well at Hawaii. Good for him. But, we still have a very good team and one which can defeat Hawaii & McDonald, or Cordeiro, or whoever plays QB for them.

Deciding whether I wanted to meet my Ute friends at Rice Eccles, I decided to eventually show up in my "UCLA Alumni" sweatshirt, looking like an freak amongst a sea of Red Utes,
deciding to make an early exit for obvious reasons.
My point? As I was drowning among the UTE faithful, I finally focused on one of the things I realized was crucial to the U of Utah's ascension among college football ranks and did a little analysis as it related to Aztec support based on the information I could obtain.
In 2011, Rocky Long's first year as head coach, average attendance for the first six home games was 41,051, including two 50K+ games against Washington State and Boise State.
In 2019, Rocky Long's ninth year as head coach, average attendance for the first five home games is 30,239, (again, including 40,222 for the Sky Show) .
My point? Certainly marquee games draw crowds, as I trust the coming BYU game will. But I feel compelled to point out in the nine years as head coach, Long's success on the field has done little to build a stronger fan base for Aztec football in San Diego, and arguably seen support gradually diminish. So, in essence, in my humble opinion, the relative success he has had with this program doesn't register positively with probably the most important statistic, (which makes Coach Fisher's impact on community support all the more incredible).
I'm no soothsayer, I'm a pragmatist. I've followed this program since the late 60's and I've seen the successes and failures. For me, the last two home games sent out yet another alarm that this program has certainly seen better days regarding community support and the thought of a new stadium energizing the program may be nothing more than an expensive and costly fool's errand.
(Shudda upgraded that campus stadium when the school had the chance and this concern would be moot. But with a new basketball arena instead, maybe that act was a precursor).
Retired Aztec, I admire your chutzpah~ no matter how much $#!+ you take, you come back for more. Shows real sand. And that's an interesting take; I didn't quite realize attendance has been in such decline in the Rocky Long era. I think what may be lost on the true Aztec fan that's NOT lost on the general public is that earning ginned up win-loss records against college football's dregs employing a stultifying brand of football won't put casual fans in the seats. Sure, if we were beating the Oklahomas and Washingtons and Michigan States of college football 6-0, who cares? Just get me to the stadium! But beating Weber Fricking State 6-0, or flopping about scoring 13 here and 17 there against bottom-feeders is like watching paint dry. People aren't stupid. Times are tough and the rent is too damn high and people choose where to spend their entertainment dollar. And Aztec football, at present time, is not entertaining for non-Aztec fanatics. Personally, I love defense, but watching the antics on the offensive side of the ball dulls the fun considerably. PS: You should probably drop the 1000th iteration of 'Shudda upgraded Aztec Bowl'; WE KNOW. But the horse has left the barn, it's dead, and it ain't coming back. Also, telling us how, sporting the moniker RETIRED AZTEC, you wore a UCLA sweatshirt to the game, you might just keep that little bon mot to yourself. Or not. Your call. Cheers and GO AZTECS! Trolling ad nauseam on a backwater sports board "shows real sand"? I'd say give me a break, but considering the source...

You've hit a milestone, your 2000th post of saying nothing, having no take, adding nothing to the debate or conversation, just the usual slap. Congratulations, Captain Empty Calorie! You win some ginsu knives or something. 'Son, I thought of you when writing that, by the way. I thought of how many times you go after Retired Aztec. Wanted to get a rise out of you by defending him. No surprise it worked. Bully gotta bully.
