My high school alma mater is back to playing all of their games at home, in a stadium that has been under some sort of reconstruction for the past 3 years (still not finished, but getting closer). They have a new entrance, new ticket booths, concessions, rest rooms, lights, scoreboard, and other goodies making the stadium more ADA-compliant. And the team itself seems better on offense, averaging over 37 points per game. Of course, there is a minor problem on the defensive side of the ball, which gives up 49 points per game. But hey, they are kids, they are 3-3, and this past Friday, the Patriots went back and forth with San Diego High, before losing 50-42.

Patrick Henry beats Kearny tonight. 70-36. Haven't seen the stats yet, but the Patriots QB threw lots of touchdown passes.

Mr. lux was incorrect with his assumption, on the PPR, that this year's team put Henry on the map. He was wrong. the teams from the 70s and 80s put Henry on the map. the 1971 team may have been the school's best team losing to Grossmont in the 2A final 8-7. 3A started in 1979 and was large schools back then and only the top 2 conference teams made the playoffs. no opponent scored in double figures against them and allowed 29 points all year ( current all time san diego county #2 fewest season points allowed). 1973 lost to Kearny in the 2A championship game 1974 lost to a very good Vista team in the 2A championship game. 1983 had a very good team in only allowing double figures to then nationally ranked Colton, won the Eastern league and lost to a very good Vista team in the playoffs 3-0. also a team in the late 90s was 11-0 and lost to San Pasqual in the playoffs. back then Henry was a 3-year high school and over 3,000 students with a top of about 4,000 and in the Eastern league and 2A 1978 and before and 3A after 1979 until early 2010s. now the school has about 2,400 spread across four grades and steps backward to div. 4, city league and all teams in all divisions choosing make the playoffs. The 1994 team with Ricky Williams beat Morse in the regular season won the Eastern league. Henry lost to Morse 14-0 in the 3A championship game. That is a very good past with Eastern League championships, playoff wins against the best competition to ignore.

Maybe he said that due to the fact that the Patriots have scored more points (420) and given up more points (515) in a season than they ever have before.

1974 lost to a very good Vista team in the 2A championship game. A great Vista team in '74 - they were State Champions that year (and again in '85, the best San Diego Section team ever).

thanks for filing that in. I add the 1990 Morse team among the best San Diego teams ever. that could be the year Morse beat Henry 70-7. my point is the competition was a lot tougher back then with teams with 100 players with about 50 san diego county high schools compared to about 100 now. now teams are lucky to have 40 players or less and two way offense and defense players.

And...Patrick Henry lost last week. Didn't have their starting QB, for the battle of the Patriots, losing to the Orange Glen Patriots 52-28. Patrick Henry could score with the best of them, but couldn't keep the other team from scoring, either. At least the offense almost always kept them in the game.
