In my not-the-slightest-humble opinion, Barack Obama's declaration that he was sending more troops to Afghanistan only to start pulling them out little more than a year later stands as one of his worst actions. Why announce ahead of time that you will leave by a certain date? Why should locals side with you if they fear you will leave them to the tender mercies of forces that do not mind killing thousands to make their point? Anyway, here is a piece by someone who knows the region and the critical players in this drama. What I gather from all this, though the author does not deal with this question, is that the influence of the U.S. is going to diminish greatly under the Obama doctrine. Well, we must remember what some have said, namely that Obama wants to be free to transform America according to his idea of what it should be. Dealing with foreign policy is a bothersome distraction for him. (Don't froth at the mouth, please. I think this particular criticism of the President could apply, in reverse, to someone such as Richard Nixon. He found domestic affairs less interesting than foreign policy.) www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/26/AR2010042603020.htmlAzWm

I get upset to some extent every time I read or think about the stumbling and bumbling foreign policy from this administration. Obama has surrounded himself with folks almost as dim as he is. The domestic side is even worse unless you like socialistic policy and the waste of our nations capital through inept spending policy with no hope of the revenue side to ever responsibly match the spending. This had better be a huge Dem loss in November followed by the ouster of Obama in 2012 or we will just slide deeper in debt and be a bigger laughing stock internationally.

And what exactly did the last administration do regarding foreign policy that was so superior to this one? ....and if the Republicans gain control in 2012, we will see how much better everything is... our problems are not so black/white....good vs. evil..... Rep vs. Dem as you make them out to be Win. We live in a very complex Country and World...... of course if you simplify (communists versus the good guys) like FOX...you make more money.

The Bush Administration was nearly as bad on the Domestic side, but far superior and nearly coherent on the foreign policy side. They were no bargain either and it is not Republicans that I will champion albeit they are superior to the Dems, but real Conservative folks need to return to power and make some tough choices. It is a complex world indeed and it will not be easy, but we have to make a stand someplace. I am now for some sort of financial reform for Banks and Wall Street. Have you heard anything in this present proposal that would address Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? How about making it a crime to short an investment product that you have created that is destined to fail? You have got to get a real look at things and not just think in terms of what Fox News says and be opposed. Think things out at least a little for yourself.

Well, in that latter case, I don't think very many people, other than those regimes that hate us, will be laughing. The world has enjoyed nearly a century during which the U.S. has been a bulwark against military and economic threats. Those who want to see us cut down to size may come to realize that wishes can sometimes be toxic when they come true. I imagine that not a few U.S. voters who swallowed the Obama KoolAid two years ago are feeling that way right about now. AzWm
