In the talks with the Pelicans prior to the Lakers offering everyone on their roster, Kuzma was now thought to be the better prospect than Ingram. No way now that Ingram is a lottery pick. Jalen's comparison to him may now be a detriment and Ingram has a much better three point shot and better ball handling skills at this point. Yes he is older but not by much. I think if Jalen continues to shoot the three and somehow puts us on his back to take us the the NCAA tournament he gets into the 1st round because that would also show some leadership skills as well. If not he slips to the 2nd and probably makes a lot of money in China just like Franklin. Another year of college basketball and his degree would go a long way in helping him in basketball and life. Hope he stays. Just look at the leap Zylan Cheatham has made in 2 years and that has much more to do with maturity than coaching. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

With more improvement, he could get into the first round in 2020.
But for now:
"San Diego State made a run to the Mountain West championship game, giving NBA scouts three opportunities to watch McDaniels. Their overall impression from the weekend likely depended heavily on which game they saw; McDaniels went from being spectacular in the quarterfinal to solid in the semis before having one of his worst games of the season in the final.
Overall, McDaniels showed what makes him intriguing long-term with his positional size, fluidity, tremendous motor, flashes of shot-making ability and defensive versatility as a 6-foot-10 forward. The big question is his 3-point shooting, as he's just 22-for-72 on the season (31 percent). But his 77 percent career free throw shooting, as well as his midrange prowess, offer some hope in that regard. If that part of his game comes around, it's easy to envision a role for him in the NBA, and there's likely still some long-term upside left to tap into as his frame continues to fill out."

Are any MWC players projected ahead of him? Caroline? A Martin? Quetta? Taylor?

Second round draft picks generally end up in europe. Its up to jalen to decide whats best for his future. If it was me, I would stay, work my ass off and get drafted in the first round in 2020 to get a guaranteed contract.

Also, I think there is less than 1% chance Jalen plays for SDSU again.
While he could help his draft value by returning (and having a POY-type season) it is more likely that it won't help him (because he will be a year older - and would be equivalent to being a College Senior). Based on the fact that he is projected early second round and almost didn't come back this year it is a virtual lock that he will declare for the draft. I also think that his potential is enough to ensure that he does get drafted in the second round (and therefore could not come back).
Really the only chance for him coming back would be the desire to play with his brother.

FYI...latest update to ESPN's mock has Jalen at #36. link (premium) And during the last five weeks, NBAdraft.com has downgraded him from a projected #20 to #31. Admittedly, I want to see him return for one more year at SDSU because it would be in the team's best interest but I also think it would be in his.

I don’t expect him to be back next year. Coming back one more year doesn’t put 30 pounds on you. He showed in a majority of the games he can be a really good college player. Everything he needs to work on can be done at the next level.
There’s enough teams that a handful will be interested in trying to develop him as he’s got the skill set that the NBA teams are looking at for the 4 spot.

Not very many have a lengthy career in the nba. Most don’t last beyond the initial contract. If Jalen thinks that he has mba potential, he needs to be drafted in the first round.

Jaden is going to be a one and done who gets drafted in the top 5 pretty much regardless. If Jalen decides to come back and they both play here I totally see that in Jalen's best interest. SDSU would be a pre-season ranked team and could potentially have one of the best season's we've ever had.
Our 2 guards next year are already considered to be about the best guard tandem on the west coast, and they're veterans. With Jalen, Jaden, and Mensah rounding out the other starters that would possibly be the best starting 5 we've ever fielded IMO, with Mitchell, Schakel, Arop off the bench (& possibly KJ the frosh). That team would get a hell of a lot of attention if things went well, and Jalen's draft status could definitely be helped with teams having to be spread thin trying to guard all of the surrounding offensive weapons

If Jaden comes to SDSU, we're all pretty sure that Jalen is coming back as well. I think Jalen would definitely be a first rounder, since those two probably play off of each other so well. Also, having two experienced guards and a hopefully much improved Mensah at center, boy, those two would go off.
Hopefully, Jalen's is in his brothers ear, letting him know how much it would help him. I think Jaden's situation is a moot point. He's a lottery pick, or at least a first rounder no matter where he goes. Come on Jaden, help a brother out!!!

I am persuaded by likefishsay's take. If I'm Jalen and Jaden should want to come to SDSU and play on the same team with me for a year, I stay around and make it happen. If my little brother decides that's unimportant to him, I take my chances in the draft.

Dear Jalen,
Thank you for the fantastic season and a great career at SDSU. You were great and played hard. With your size and unique skill set, you should be a mid-first rounder, but I am concerned you are likely to fall into the 2nd round category this draft. Please consider coming back to the Mesa next year instead of opting for the draft. Next year will be significantly better for you with improved players around you and a more successful team, e.g., the guard play will be stronger (I think), Mensah will be greatly improved, and if your brother joins, the team will be talked about all year and into March Madness. That could be a career changer.
Aztec for life.

I want Jalen to comeback but to act there are no reasons for him to leave as some have suggested in this thread is silly. Jalen is 21 the likelihood of him improving his stock next year is not incredibly high. In all likelihood he’s going to have to be a 2 way player to start his career regardless.
He’s not the kind of guy that can put on weight easy. Also the team underachieved this year and will be young next year. If he’s undrafted he can chose to comeback to school after regardless. I’m rooting for him regardless
