According to reports, the Padres have signed Ian Kinsler to a 2-year deal for $8 million. Kinsler is arguably coming off of his 2 worst seasons offensively. Bounce back season, perhaps?

But at 36, can he?

He was still a 2.5 WAR guy last season. Really solid defender. I'm sure they brought him in to spell the rookies and be a useful bat off the bench. Those kinds of depth signings really matter.

Hopefully he won’t have a problem adjusting to NL pitching like Hosmer did.

Not a bad signing. Career .272 hitter, but his avg slipped last season, which means maybe .240 in Petco. Kinsler still brings a solid glove to the ballpark, if he is the everyday 2nd baseman maybe Urias slides over and plays plays SS.

Not a trend I want to see continue. But in a small sample size, Kinsler is hitting .229 in his career at Petco.

He's not going to be an everyday guy. Urias is going to play shortstop until Tatis arrives, then shift back to 2nd. Kinsler will spell around the diamond afterwards.

This is reminiscent of the Dodgers signing Chase Utley a few years ago. Right now, without any more deals or signings, the infield is Hosmer, Kinsler, Urias and Myers.

I'm not a fan of Myers at 3B, but I realize we could see it.

Still has solid leather, but not much of a stick these days. If he is only playing as a backup for depth, it's a good signing.
