This really hurts to admit it but I agree with Trump on this issue.
No, I don't believe he has a clue regarding the Constitution and he cannot change it via executive order.
But...
I have always felt that in order to become a citizen you (the mother) must be a legal resident of the country. By that I mean no student visa, no tourist visa, etc. You must have legal resident status.
It especially frosts my cookies that many people apply for tourist visas then visit the U.S. just to give birth. Poof anchor baby.
Yes. It also applies to illegal immigrants too.

It is just plain wrong. Even Harry Reid years ago said it was insane. Especially illegals. We are being played big tome on this issue. And no other country does this to my knowledge.

Currently 30 countries offer birthright citizenship

Currently 30 countries offer birthright citizenship Interesting list Besides Canada, where is Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Japan etc. No county that anyone would really want to migrate to is on the list (besides Canada) Not really apples to apples in my book. Didn't this amendment have something to do with slavery at the time? Just b/c something made sense or was the right thing to do a long time ago, does not mean its the right thing to do now. Cattle rusting was a hanging offense once, right?

Times do change. I can recall from my early youth, the doors to our house were not necessarily locked at night. Now we buy security systems. I can bet all the elites in Hollywood, NY and DC do that and more. So spare us the claim that the left is magnanimous and the GOP is selfish in this debate.
In the distant past when the US needed mass immigration, the barrier to entry was low. Now, when the price of unqualified mass immigration is huge, we need to have different immigration policies. We actually have those laws on the books but the exploitation of loopholes by the left makes them feckless.
The elites love open borders because it really only costs and affects someone else while they receive the benefit of new, like-minded voters (aka political power), it keeps wages low, it provides people to fill their menial jobs and, as I mentioned before, gives them political power. They get Government dependents and low information voters to buy in with them on the scheme and the rest is predictable.
Their kids are in private school and they don't have to deal with gangsters in the local school nor deal with unmanageable teacher to pupil classroom ratios with watered down curriculum dialed in to make sure no one fails (versus excels). They live in gated communities with security systems well away from the border regions. But you just can't find more generous souls with other people's money, however.
As Gov budgets balloon to cover the costs of their feel good power play, regressive taxation is all that is left to make ends meet. The middle class, that used to thrive in the private sector, is squeezed by taxes, Gov mandates and lower wages, to the point where working in a Gov job is now coveted and getting government handouts is nearly a necessity for most.
As it is obvious why most 1st world Governments don't offer birthright citizenship, the elites in the US will one day also take it away once they get unopposed power, as they have achieved in CA using the same open border method.
