How about this. We have four non-conference games a year. How about scheduling two home games against FCS schools such as Northern Arizona or Texas State and two big money away games against the likes of Oklahoma, USC, Texas, or Florida. We would likely lose the latter two, but if we could get enough dough from them (at least $750,000 each) it would be worth it. And, here and there, we might actually win one! Most years we would enter MWC play 2-2. I think we are close to the stage of breaking even in conference, and that would mean almost always never falling below .500. Find a way to beat five conference teams (which, after Hoke builds up the team a couple of years more, should not be out of reach) and we make a bowl. I can see a day soon when we usually beat NMU, Wyo, CSU, and UNLV regularly. AFA is the swing vote, to mangle a saying. We have beaten the Flyboys here and there, so why is 5-3 in conference, even if we cannot beat any of the top 3, too much to hope for? In other words, 7-5 may become the norm. And, provided that we knock off one of those BCS schools, we reach 8-4. Win a bowl game then and we are 9-4 and probably in the Top-25! And, not incidentally, by that time our average attendance would virtually never fall below 25,000 and probably seldom below 30,000. Should I send my plan for Aztec FB success to Brady Hoke and our new AD? AzWm

I kind of like that idea, but would try to scheule the very best home and home opponets that we can. Even a two for one would be OK. I have higher expectations for Aztec Football than what you lay out and I think we can get there. Of course I have had that opinion for many years.

My plan is indeed based on a somewhat pessimistic view of things. I think the next two seasons are going to answer the question of whether this program can be saved. If we break even this year and make a bowl in 2011, and if, furthermore, Hoke can keep the improvement ball rolling, we should be okay. On the other hand, if we should fail to reach .500 this year and next, I just don't see the scenario that favors a resurgence of Aztec football. Oregon State suffered through 28 straight losing seasons until the program was saved about a decade ago. I don't think a Calif. State Univ. school can survive that long with the financial situation looking as bad as it is now in this state. AzWm

Your plan has some qualities I like. However, I think it is deficient with respect to building local attendance and support for the program.
There should be some high profile opponents at the Q too! (not just on the road)

Only 1 FCS win can count toward bowl eligibility
