When a prominent Canadian declares, approvingly, that her country does not have a law defending free speech, something must be going wrong in that hitherto well-regarded land to the north. We often forget how well protected we are for the most part and what we must do to maintain that freedom. Dennis Prager commented on your point recently. He said, and I think he is correct, that the United States of America really is exceptional in that almost all nations throughjout history have tended to be authoritarian ones or outright dictatorships. The idea that individual citizens should be allowed to make their own decisions seems to be a rare concept. Sadly, and this is an issue that I'm afraid George Bush got wrong, it appears that there are plenty of people around the world who are quite comfortable living in a dictatorship. Well, comfortable until the wagon rolls up to take them away to the nearest concentration camp. AzWm |
