So say two Democrats who know a thing or two about politics. Their point is simple: by announcing that he will not run in 2012, Obama would be free to really serve America in many positive ways that he could not were he to be preoccupied with campaigning for the next two years. To make such a decision, Obama would have to put something other than himself above all else, namely his country. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/12/AR2010111202846.htmlAzWm

Obama should emasculate his career? That would really suit all the conservatives. They could just sit back and wait for 2012 as the Democratic Party fought among themselves for the 2012 nomination. What an idea. Let's make sure that the the democrats can't make a united stand for the American people and the future of our country. The ridiculous statement that Obama has lost his crediblility with republicans begs the question, when did he ever have any? They got their knives out for him as soon as possible.

Just like the Democrats did with Bush II. Hell, they hated the guy before he was even sworn in and did all they could to sabotage his presidency. Totally true. Worse in the case of bush actually. Oh, really? Please explain.

If by a while you mean about 6 months, and that they only gave him what he wanted as related to national security issues, then, yes, that's true. But he was despised by the left before he took office, and they did try to undermine him before he even took the oath.

The simple fact of the matter is that Obama is doing a fine job so far. If Republican expectations are that he would instantly cure the horrible economic mess they created in the past ten years, that is totally unrealistic.
We are gradually pulling out of this miasma. Along the way, we finally have taken steps to socialize medicine. We need to go a lot further, faster in that regard. The only way we can have fair medical care for everybody is to have fully socialized medicine.
The oft stated policy of the "I've got mine to FUG you" crowd (commonly referred to as Republicans and Libertarians and Ron Paulites) just does not cut it anymore. Letting the poor die in ever increasing numbers just because they are poor does not cut it any more.
Praise Obama! Easily the greatest president in American history.

I hope Obama does run again and it appears that he will. Joe, you make a better case for Obama with your tongue in cheek routine than these real liberals are able to. Keep it up!

William, you can't be foolish enough to think these two guys are really Democrats. You just can't. I know you're a very intelligent person, so please don't insult our intelligence. Did you advocate the same thing for reagan after two years? Because things were at least as bad in 1982 as they are now. I know about these guys. One of them used to be on MSNBC. If he were still a Democrat, he'd still be on that network. The other guy is a tea party loony. Did you miss this at the end of the article? Patrick H. Caddell, who was a pollster and senior adviser to President Jimmy Carter, is a political commentator. Douglas E. Schoen, a pollster who worked for President Bill ClintonWhat you mean is that these two men have not drunk the kool aid that is piped into the drinking fountains at Left Wing establishments such as MoveOn and the Huffington Post. By your standards, JFK would more or less be considered a right-winger. AzWm

Did it bother you when the Right was accusing the Clinton's of murdering Foster?... or when a right wing talk show host was using Clinton's photo for target practice on weekends and bragging about it?? Unfortunately this has been going on for awhile now, and it's getting worse. The other side is always "Hitler" or worse. We really do need a centrist before we implode.

A true centrist would not get 50 votes. He would also be worthless. Someone who thinks and finds value in both sides of the political agruement is wishy washy to the point of hopeless paralysis. Liberals and Conservatives would both think he was from the other side and those in the middle or near the middle would find him uninteresting. The country is center right and that is where we need to find our leadership.

He shot his wad with the peanut farmer and hasn't said anything worth listening to since Carter left office. Let me guess, next you'll be claiming Dick Morris is a Democrat because he worked for Clinton. =Bob

The country is center right and that is where we need to find our leadership. That's the Republican argument, but it's also quite untrue. The country is centrist - not center right or center left, but centrist in that they'll vote for people who come off as reasonable and are willing to find solutions, even if it means compromising from time to time. And quite frankly, what you wrote above offers everything that's wrong with our two political parties as they exist, because what you are really stating is only extremists should be elected. If your argument was correct, there wouldn't be the disdain there is in this country for both political parties. Obama's approval rating is still in the mid to high 40s - compare that with the opinions consistently expressed about both parties in Congress. Both parties are out of touch because both have been taken over by the extreme. Today the Republicans (and maybe some blue dogs, not sure) beat down an extension of unemployment benefits despite the fact that polls are showing almost 75 percent of Americans want to see them extended. About the same percentage believe that Don't Ask, Don't Tell should be $#!+-canned but that ain't going to happen with the Christian Reich once again in control of the House. You really don't get it in your elderly narcissism, do you? You think that most people agree with you simply because you believe you are always correct. It never seems to occur to you that compromise is what this country was built upon and at this point the two parties are tearing this country apart. =Bob
