I just listened to the interview. Kaplan is very hard to listen to, and Billy Ray is a neanderthal. Kaplan keeps saying "Now, help me with this here" or "Now,I am just trying to figure this out." He is transparently demeaning, while being borderline moronic. JD walks circles around him, and JD is not even a very good spokesman. Nick Stone came on afterwards and totally blew everything JD said out of the water...every time I hear the "we can build a stadium for $150 million" I wince. There's no quicker way to lose credibility than to try and sell this to the public. It makes us seem naive and out of touch with reality. That's because Stone is lying through his teeth. People should be really skeptical of anything he says.

Hmmmm. Seem to recall many on this board saying that SDSU could not comment on issues involving voting, yes? Seems like the school has been quite voluble recently. If they hadn't been so profound in their mute coalition over the past year or two, they might not now be desperately flailing to clamber out of the grave they've dug for our FBS football program.

People should be really skeptical of anything he says. And skepticism of SDSU as well. Sacramento is asking for $180 million for a soccer stadium with 25,000 seats. And that is after millions have already been spent on infrastructure. One doesn't need high level math to conclude that a stadium for 35,000 to 50,000 will top that number by a wide margin.

They never said it would only cost $150m, just that we had it and could raise the rest.

I agree here. Is there something that I missed, or were we just telling ourselves we couldn't speak to put us at ease?

We still have not fully funded the JAM center, correct?

Um, it was fully funded. 85% privately funded and then University funds. They will issue Revenue Bonds for this project, and already have an estimate of what they can raise through that process. Other possible revenue streams would be naming rights, student fee, donations. I know this bureaucrats with their pusillanimous nature, never taking a risk or outlining what they want, wait they did what you have asked and the tune remains the same. You seem to either purposely want to find flaws or want a level of access and understanding of activities that is only available in the President's office.

I'll accept your information as fact for now, about the JAM center and therefore stand corrected. Thank you. I do not accept your opinion that they are capable of the bigger picture. They have not shown that at all. Although, I know Sally Roush, and I think she can help. I'm happy for you and your optimism, although, that alone won't accomplish much.

Damn--even more people have taken to using the word "pusillanimous". I thought that was reserved solely for MoW. Now I have a headache.

Honestly, the more I think about this the more reasonable it sounds. $150M will not be a glamorous stadium, but built in a parking lot with unfettered access it may actually be possible. For now I will give JD a pass on this one.

If we build in an open parking lot, there is very little infrastructure improvements required for the project. And before someone brings this up, the soil beneath the parking lot has been remediated, so that is not a big deal.

And are you assuming that somehow SDSU would take possession and build with no other on- and off-site costs?

Sorry, UCSD is not registering, Big West is not registering, AAC is not registering for football only, as they get the same peanuts as the MWC. I wish UCSD well in whatever they are going for, because honestly, they are only relevant when you remind me to believe they should be. Just saying keep your eyes peeled. Sorry but UCSD isn't even to athletics as SDSU is to academics. Closer would be UCSD is to athletics as Cal State San Bernardino is to academics.
