McCoy to UNLV
This is on the coaches...they are definitely doing something wrong in not be able to bring in any BIG
Why are our coaches not being pressed in press conferences on the downward trend of getting any BIG that can bang and bring the physical presence...Since Spencer, we have not had any recruit in the middle...that's 5 years
Depending on grad transfers is simply terrible...there are power forwards and centers outside of California that need to invest more money in getting our recruiters outside of California to find young talent
Coaching stiffs need to be accountable for not closing

Have never heard the staff's responses as to why getting a 5 is so damn difficult here. How long is Dutcher's contract for?

Believe there could be lessons learned from last year recruit Zach Collins who chose the Zags over SDSU . Zags have an offense that pushes the ball and uses the 5's in the offense as an option rather then simply high ball screen or defender . They get people playing in the NBA at the 5 . Recruits notice this !. Our offense is not a movement style or pass and share the ball . One on One offense and you hope you are a guy that is part of it . Or you stand around , then are surprised if a pass comes your way . Not enough inside outside . This is not something that Dutcher set up but inherited . Need to open up the offense and involve numerous guys in the front court . Acknowledge that this is a problem and see what needs to be corrected . Also really need to really examine our recruiting . Are people giving us information that we are ignoring or ? Is there a way to expand our contacts and
Nolan Narain should have played in every game he was healthy enough to play . IMO his development was very important and not much happened . Needed more PT for him rather then bring in more guys that prefer to launch threes . Some say lets just play three guards , does not totally solve the situation

One thing I've noticed by the coaching staff in recent years is that they seem to get tunnel vision and zero in on a guy. If we land him, great. If we don't, we're screwed. I always see other schools being fairly aggressive in recruiting and sending out multiple offers. Culture fit is important of course, but the staff needs to start being more aggressive in recruiting and let recruits decide if they want to be part of our culture. If Hamdy and Jeter were our two main options for transfers this off-season, then that is pretty bad. Jeter is the most sought after transfer this season, while Hamdy (VCU) was being recruited by a P5.

I think players have watched our offense or the lack their of and that is why they are going else where. What I don't get is why McCoy went to UNLV a team in total disarray. Something funny is going on there. I'd pick Oregon over UNLV and I'd be okay with that.
Like others have said I think this staff is weak on Offense and concentrates to much on defense. Until we get a staff that is up and coming and not old school we will see a downward trend in recruiting.

Hutson was rated one of the top recruiters a couple years ago (probably for landing Kell, Pope, Z, Zabo) but hasn't delivered. Oregon was in disarray not too long ago, too, with all the sexual harassment stuff but they turned it around quite quickly. As has USC and now ASU. The lost opportunity was 5 years ago when UCLA and the Pac 12 were down and we didn't take full advantage. We got Kawhi coz Howland fell asleep at the wheel but in general we have not capitalized on our success and now it's beginning to regress. Dutch and Hut have a lot of work to do to not completely lose the progress they made a few years ago.

One lost recruit doesn't mean the end of the world. It represents an opportunity for another kid to come in here, work his a$$ off and become a great player.
So in other words.......next.

. Take Zach Collins who chose the Zags over us last year . He / or his father said they liked the way the Zags , run their offense . They involve their 5's . they get their 5's ready for the NBA .
Our recruiting ,offensive schemes , and development of our guys needs to improve . Recruits do watch the style you play and what you do with your talent . Realize there are problems and try to correct them as quickly as possible . Maybe ask some recruits who turned us down why ?
We did not just lose 1 recruit . We lost multiple recruits last year . Same this year . Next year is not trending well - best local guys are looking at the PAC . So things need to be adjusted or it could continue .
Do appreciate that Dutcher has said the coaches need to take a look at other offenses to see if there is a better fit for our team .
Need for development from Nolan , Jalen , Teki ...
Recruiting needs to broaden out .

Maybe recruits read message boards like AZTEC Mesa and then ask themselves, "why in the world would I want to go to a school where their "fans" regularly slam the team, players, coaches, AD, and school president?...maybe I should go to a school where fans actually support their teams rather than bash them whenever possible"
I know that if I were 18...I certainly would not want to play in front of our fans...although...let's face it...there are not a lot of fans left at the end of most games anyways...

does not make sense that our coaches have missed on so many recruits or is it we are not even considered by these recruits ? Hope that some thing gets fixed and quickly .

The problem isn't the "next one" mentality......it's someone!! For some reason we can't get a recruit to commit to us. Who has committed here besides Jalen McDanials that's over 6'8" in the last 1-2yrs? We can't play small ball and play half-court offense without bigs! McDanials - SF Narain - SF Pope - SF Hoetzel - SF None of these guys can play the post up game....

The trend is very obvious...
The awful offense has hurt our recruiting...coaches that are not doing anything to change the terrible shooting % and the downward trend of each player on the team
Not 1 player is trending in an upward direction...
We have to continuously redshirt players so that the following years recruiting class looks decent..that's pretty sad
The way the team is looking is terrible to think that 1 point guard will turn our season around...
Coaches have to be asked what seems to be the problem..why isn't one media guy, at the press conferences, pressing the coaches on the terrible recruiting of big men and how the offense continues to be in the dumps?
It's almost like every reporter and writer respected fisher so Much that they did not want to ask the tough questions
We are reaching the point where they have to be asked

"We can't play small ball and play half-court offense without bigs!"
Hmmmm, please meet my friends the Golden State Warriors.
No, the Aztecs aren't the GSWs. But the point is that there's more than one (old/traditional) way to play basketball.

Wrong Very thought provoking... It's obvious that your assessment has some major flaws in terms of how recruitment is going Snap out of your dream and back into reality He shows the literary depth of our moron President. Defense is an obvious part of the game and players do take pride in it. But it's not discussed - it's simply done. It is easy to make the argument that SDSU is not where you go to refine your offensive game for the NBA. Hopefully that takes a dramatic leap for the best this season. We can run a GSW-type of offense with the talent we have at PG/SG/SF.
