You get a call and an automated voice says, " your delivery is ready, enter 1 or say yes if you will be available to accept delivery in the next 10 minutes? Thank you, we will call when you can come to the street and accept delivery. www.espn.com/watch/In 10 minutes you are called and find a delivery van outside. You insert the credit card you used into a slot and then your package is extended on a platform for you to take. When the item is removed from the platform your credit card is ejected from the slot. After your credit card is taken the self driving van pulls away with a thank you for shopping with Amazon or whatever. All this is very doable right now. The drone delivery for smaller items has a lot more problems. I suspect you will have to place a target for the drone. Self driving delivery makes a lot more sense in the near future. With cheap delivery services not associated with a single provider, small delivery items such as dinner from a restaurant (including Pizza delivery), medicine, groceries, and late night snacks will be quite reasonable. I suspect there will be a mega billionaire who becomes the google of generic automated delivery Home and business. Fedex might be too big to change so radically. The key is the software to schedule the vans for pickup and delivery and the ability to absorb losses until the service is used enough to make such schedules profitable.

However I see many undelivered items piling up. Now driverless vehicles replacing cabs and Uber are another story.
