To all those who want to assume undefeated is the standard for SDSU we give you last nite . It just does not happen and didn't again this year in FBS. This ranking is truly unprecedented and well deserved. Speaks volumes about the kind of players this staff attract and will in the future. I for one will just reflect and enjoy and not assume anything about the future.
In this market, most people think of New Mexico as a third world country and Wyoming as a dude ranch. Those of us who truly love the Aztecs are not "most" people.
The last two seasons have seen the Aztecs meet the goals that I wanted to see them achieve.
Winning a Bowl game over a good opponent - and blowing out said good opponent - two years in a row, and then finishing in the Top 25?
THAT is a great season for Aztec Football. Period.
Congratulations to Rocky, his staff, and the players - you guys had one hell of a season!
Quite right, Erik. I got what I came for in both years. My wish for last year was double-digit wins and a major bowl victory, and for this season it was to finish anywhere in the final Top 25, and now we have. To be sure, we did it the hard way, with those losses. But the final rankings are all that matter now.
Now the coaches can tell kids we ended up on the ESPN poll. That's how you sprint to the finish in recruiting season.
Like I said during the season when we got knocked out of the Top 25 twice. It only matters where you are ranked at the end of the season.
Honestly in 10 years not many will care about ending the season in the Top 25 which is why I think in the long run the MW Championship was more important. Short term in recruiting Top 25, back to back MW Champions and back to back impressive bowl wins over teams link to Big 12 expansion means a lot. The program has a lot going for it we just need to finally land a 4 star kid to get recruiting to jump to the next level and figure out the stadium situation. I only see the program going up over the next 5 years even if we have a little fall off next year.
