I was saddened to hear of the passing of NFL Special Teams Coach Bruce DeHaven at the young age of 68 due to a long battle with cancer.
He had been special teams coach for the Buffalo Bills for years but was terminated after the 1999 season, the last straw being the Tennessee Titans running back a kickoff on a trick play
for a touchdown to win a wild card game against the Bills. I remember reading how saddened he was by the firing even though his next job was with the 49'ers, (Buffalo to San Francisco??).
But what I remember most about the interview was something he said regarding the termination, something that has stayed with me for years. Though he probably wasn't the first to say it, I'll always attribute it to him....."life is about moving on". Truer words were never spoken. May he finally rest in peace.
