The real problem is that BOTH parties are kicking out the moderates. If you don't buy into the extreme views espoused you cannot get out of the primary election. If elections were held without primaries there would be many more moderates, or centrists, in office. If you look at those who were not reelected, many were considered moderate. The gridlock is only going to get worse as both parties will refuse to compromise.

Clinton and the GOP controlled Congress were able to get things done in the 1990s. Of course, Obama is no Clinton.
