Favorite one I have played: Aviara One course I would still love to play: Torrey Pines & La Jolla CC I love Aviara. Also try Barona and Maderas. Good luck on getting on at La Jolla. Pauma Valley is private but the SCGA usually has a couple of outings there each year. Maybe the best 'traditional' course in the county and worthy of a major championship if it wasn't so far in the sticks.

I also like Twin Oakes and Rancho Bernardo Inn. The best layout in the County in my view is Castle Creek where I belong. The problem is that Castle Creek is now in such horrible shape and getting worse that I would never recommend it. It almost looks like they are getting ready to "go under". Glad I sold my house down there and bought at Red Hawk where I would go if Castle Creek goes under. Down south I lake Coronado and Balboa.

For some reason I thought that Castle Creek had been bought by the Welk Resort. Sorry to hear it is in such poor condition. Who owns it now? Hopefully not that slime bucket Schlesinger who killed Escondido CC and is in the process of doing the same to Fallbrook and Stoneridge. Is Red Hawk still in good shape? I thought that the guy that designed it corrected many of the mistakes he made at Carmel Mtn. Ranch and have always enjoyed that course. If you live there, why aren't you playing it?

The bartender there said LT, Gates, and some other Chargers used to play there and hang out in the bar after sometimes. Apparently LT lived on one of the gorgeous multi million dollar homes there when he was a Charger.

LOL I had a buddy who played it a few years ago and showed me some pics....looked fantastic.

I really enjoy it. My Aunt and Uncle lived there for 20 years, off of hole #10 on the left side until they moved and rented their house out last year. I have played there often, their par 3's are pretty unique. They have #3 or 4 which has the multi tiered green and can really mind f*** you, and the island par 3 where you cross a bridge to get on. Cross Creek is another pretty cool course in Temecula. I have never played Castle Creek. What is that one public course in Mission Valley down by Hotel Circle? It looks fun when you drive by it, and likely pretty cheap.

Mount Whitson. Scenic and tight. Is that the course owned by former Padre Ed Whitson? LOL One of my favorites is San Vicente near Ramona, which is about 10 miles east of Mt. Woodson. Great layout and Golf Now always has some great Hot Deals out there. I haven't played any of the private "Hoity Toitys" but San V. is a lot of fun for the price.

But I would like to try out San Vicente. I heard it was fun.

I do love the drive from the 2nd green to the 3rd tee. I always throw my arms up like I'm on a rollercoaster. San V is scenic as well but a lot more forgiving than Woodson.

I thought that the guy that designed it corrected many of the mistakes he made at Carmel Mtn. Ranch and have always enjoyed that course. If you live there, why aren't you playing it? Castle Creek is North of Welk a little and has been owned by a Korean (P C Han) and has been for over ten years. The combination of poor management, poor customer relations and the slow decline in golfers has taken a toll of the Course. The Bar and Restaurant are what is keeping the place afloat. They do a great business on week ends with a younger crowd. They seem to be trying one last time to borrow money to drill another well to try to get the course in shape. They do not have nearly enough maintenance people to keep it up. When something goes wrong they just leave it that way or at least defer corrective action for way to long. I did go and join Red Hawk for about six months after an altercation with management over a Men's Club issue. When the owner said he fired that guy who was acting kind of like the General Manager I came back. I really like Red Hawk because it is kept in good condition and run very professionally. The reason I went back to Castle Creek is because my long time friends (those still alive and able to play) are still there. We have (or had) an active Men's Club where I have been an Officer for several years. I kept up with my duties in the Club even after I stopped plying there. Now we are in danger of not being viable. Many have left or are leaving for Golf Club of California or Pala Mesa. If it dies, I will go back to Red hawk or maybe Pala Mesa if enough of my friends go there. Fallbrook and Stonebridge are not the same bunch as Schlesinger. Fallbrook was supposed to be sold a couple months ago to some guy from Arizona. He turned out to be a flake and they had to close down. It is starting to look grow over and brown like Escondido CC and Double Tree. Sad but it looks to me that golf is suffering a slow death. I do not know what is going on at Stoneridge. It is too expensive for younger folks and a round takes much to long to play if you have to work. Now when one of us old guys dies off there is no one coming up to take his place.

I get golf balls in my front yard all the time from the first tee. I get a ball on rare occasions in my back yard from errant shots from number 10. They have to really hit a bad shot to get across two rows of houses and a street to get into my back yard. I looked into Cross Creek when I joined Red Hawk for a while. It is a fun track and well kept but has bad ownership. Riverwalk in Mission Valley is fun as well but is getting in worse shape than it was for a long time. I think the real estate is too valuable for it to remain a golf course for much longer.
