Very interesting. The Republicans did well, I think. For that matter, he Democrats spoke well also. What I was disappointed in is that some of the issues that most concern me about the Obama/Democrat proposal were not discussed. (I missed about the first hour of the discussion, by the way.)
I am concerned that physicians who are specialists will be penalized if they are in the top ten percent with respect to money spent on patients. That is despite the fact a given doctor's expenditures may all have been totally justifiable from a medical standpoint. To call that a meataxe remedy would be an understatement.
If you have a bill well over 2000 pages in length you can be sure that there are a lot of very nasty surprises contained therein which will come to light only after the whole thing becomes law. That is something like a naval mine lurking just a fathom beneath the surface waiting for an unsuspecting ship to collide with it.
I have no doubt that all members of Congress debating the health care/insurance are sincere and want to do good. But the Democrats, as usual, badly overestimate their ability to transform the country in ways that do not include built-in unanticipated consequences of a negative nature.

I worry when a bunch of politicians of either party think that they can cobble together a bill that does not include the views of health care professionals. This issue is best taken on one item at a time and then access the effect in my opinion.

I have to believe that the average American, of whatever party, who worries about the problems of the day but is not a hard-core Rep. or Dem., probably came away with a much more positive view of the Republican position on health care reform. There were a lot of points raised by the Reps that were not well rebutted by the Dems.
I guess that Obama thought this would be a huge political plus for him (I totally discount the possibility that he actually wanted to bring the two sides together), but my suspicion is that the result was the opposite.
