Does anyone know off hand how much payroll he was eating last year? This should free up some money to go out and sign someone.

Ryan, what are the chances we re-sign him?

Depends on how much of a paycut he wants to take?

He didn't deliver enough innings for the money the Padres spent on him.
I would offer him for $1.2 million/year with some incentives. If he takes it fine, if not there are plenty of good arms in the organization. If the Padres sign him and feel he can actually pitch some innings, perhaps one of the younger arms can be moved for a young hitting prospect. Bottom line here is that the Padres need some guys who can hit .265+, not a bunch of .200 banjos. Restock the outfield with some talent.

Not worried about our pitching. We haven't been able to rely on CY for 2+ years.
Offer him a 1-year, incentive laden deal, and if he goes elsewhere...no big deal. Odds are he'll never pitch even 150 innings again.
Bil suggested making a run at SDSU alum Aaron Harang if the price is right. I would be interested in him as a back of the rotation guy.

He was paid $6.25M last year. He would cost $8.5 in 2011. He can resign for less after the club exercised their option.

8.5 was based on an incentive I don't think he reached, but I don't know what he's worth next year.
