thought HS basketball had to wait until at least November to practice . I coach at a local HS... we are allowed to have "open gym" and other time dedicated for skill development and fundamentals. This is not with any set team/official roster, at least wiht our program, it is really an open invitation to all students interested in hoops. Obviously there are returning players who know they will be on the Varsity squad, but its a limited hours per week allowed as of now. Also, all the kids have to have AAU forms filled out to practice and/or participate in any weekend pre-season tournaments that we are in over the next couple of weeks. The AAU forms/affiliation help cover injuries/insurance as we are not officially in season until 11/14. Most schools as of now have an idea who will be on their team. Many teams are not at full strength in the preseason due to kids playing football also. That said, kind of a bummer that Leaf took a 1 day official visit here. He is familiar enough with the program, coaches, and players that I am not overly concerned with him not staying overnight, but it still is a bit lame. I am in the crowd that fully expects him to not choose SDSU. Things like taking a 1 day official visit to "sqeeze us in" kind of make it all the more obvious, which is the lame part. Why waste Fish and staff's time?? **Trust me - I will gladly bite the head off of a live crow if TJ commits to the Red and Black**

My question is why did he take the official visit if SDSU doesn't really have a shot? It is one thing to take a trip somewhere but he and his parents have been here before and not sure why there is to gain (a free on-campus lunch maybe?). He already had an unofficial earlier this summer.
I honestly can't think they would waste a full day here just to check out the new practice facility unless they really are considering SDSU. My guess is that he wanted to get one last look at SDSU before he checks out UCLA so he can decide between the two.

I'm just guessing he used it as a way to knock off Oregon or SDSU from his list as he just got back from Oregon. I have said it a few times that Leaf isn't coming here but I do now think it's between us and UCLA with UCLA being the favorite. Hopefully playing in front of family and friends, being able to be home for one more year before traveling non-stop in the NBA and seeing the chance to come home every offseason to work out at the JAM Center have made it a tougher decision. The Compton Magic/UCLA connection I feel is too tough to break though. But there are definitely less big bodies in his way from a starting spot at SDSU.

Good point about being able to work out at the JAM during the off-season, what with it being so close to his family's home and all. I wonder if SDSU would allow non-alums to work out there? Might behoove them to keep it exclusive!

He is going to take more than one year to be ready for the NBA.Again he is not Carl Anthony Towns or Jalil Okafor. With his current skill set he will be on the Mesa for two or three years.

Why is the basketball team wasting their time with 5* players. IMO, we should only talk to 6*+ players. I'd bring in one 6* guy and two 7* guys each year. Classic Pay attention and you might learn something.

With all big decisions, it's normal for anyone to go back and forth when the decision is a difficult one. I believe that is the case here with T.J. It's going to come down to what is more important to him and his family, they obviously have some say or at least valuable input into his decision. Simply put, its staying local and playing in front of family and friends in the best atmosphere on the west coast, blazing his own trail, or playing with his AAU buddies at UCLA, a more prestigious, historic program. I love this time of year with the imminent start to the BB season and recruits deciding where they will attend.

Pay attention and you might learn something. Obviously not from you, but I did learn from Burgundy how to mock you. So you're right, paying attention does lead to learning something, thanks. : )

Don't compromise on quality. If neither commit to SDSU hold the scholarships for later.

Steps to f****** over a program: •report a dubious NCAA infraction •share your dubious report with an Internet "journalist" •watch your unknown unfair unsubstantiated allegation dissuade recruits from attending a rival institution. •eat a pudding pop

Forget the 2016 frosh and go for 5th year transfers a la josh Davis types ! I was just thinking we need a fifth year center transfer next year.Leaf and Zylan at the 4.Narain can play the 5 after he gets bigger he may be 6-11 after a redshirt. The operative word is "if" he gets bigger. Dude is a rail. We need a bonafied 5.

Getting Stanback , a guy who played the 5 in school . Likes to play D , rebound, block shots ,favors being around the rim on both ends of the court, is very important going forward , a better offensive player then the graduating Skylar . Narain was a 4 in HS , so he is learning the 5 and 4 this year while red shirting and working out . If we had Stanback ,Narain could be an incredible stretch 4 .
Our track record for landing high quality HS guys to play the 5 . Has not been very good . Time to really get that going . Getting a high quality 5 grad transfer is not easy -
Would hope the coaches are trying to set up in home visit with Stanback.
