That is 11, so yes as of this moment we have 2 for 16-17 year.

as of today we have 11 guys due to be on scholarship for 2016 , if Pope stays . An overload at the 2&3 positions and not enough guys at the 4 and 5 . So would say big priority is to get a quality PF/C,a lot could depend on where Jalen fits in ,so priority is PF/C either HS recruit or save a scholarship for grad transfer. 2017 there are supposed to be very good PF/C 's for HS recruits BUT it all depends on if the staff think we have a chance at signing any of them . After 2016 season we lose Shrigley, Allen, Williams . No need to get to 13 scholarships unless the staff feels they are high quality players . Also does NCAA investigation still linger and hurt recruiting ? Also is Perez a player ?

Pretty much need to get at least one of the three - Cage, Leaf or Stanback - and a commitment from Bailey would be nice but he'll won't cost a scholarship for another 3 years since it sounds like he is going on his mission. Pope's spot can be saved for a transfer/5th year player over the summer as it is pretty certain he'll go pro.

If Bailey says he is going on his Mission , do not believe scholarship goes into affect until he is on campus , so would not count as part of the 2016 group .
You are correct if Aztecs do not get Cage , Stanback , Leaf , they will most likely hold on to at least one scholarship for grad transfer

Yes but would presume the coaches are going to save at least 1 scholarship if not more for transfers if needed . Signing guys they believe could be starters going forward not just fill out 13 .

There are no guarantees the right transfer will be available, nor they'll come here. Ultimately, if you can sign players who are talented & will make a difference you do so.
You don't pass on a Stanback to save an extra scholarship for a transfer. You may pass on someone late in the recruiting process who's not quite at that level to hold it, but not most of the guys we're going after.
I'd think we'd fill the remaining 2 now, if we can, and possibly use Pope's IF it comes available in April/May. That said, if Leaf wants to commit after we've filled 2 (e.g. Cage & Mathews) you don't pass on someone like that.

Would guess most of us will agree if we can sign Cage or Stanback or both , it would be great . Priority a PF/C then Mathews-SG all top 150 players . Leaf also if possible . Not sure what has been told to Mathews if he would commit today is the scholarship there or is he on "stand by " as the need is PF/C . Gets tricky
If we can not sign Cage , Stanback or Leaf . Do the coaches try to get one of other PF/ C mentioned here by Gundo or hold for transfer. IMO we sign 1 SG max .
Have said before if we can sign quality HS -PF/C or two ,we should do it ASAP . PF/C is not the easiest position for SDSU to sign .

We have two scholarships the perfect mixture would be cage and Mathews. Cheatham, Narain, Hoetzel, Mcdaniels can play the 4. And Cage, Narain can play the 5. That is plenty of options down low.

That is plenty of options down low.tweets If we had the perfect storm, Leaf & Matthews + a TBD (transfer) based on Pope's Status. Based on the shadow hanging over us right now, its sad to say Leaf, Cage, Matthews, Bailey, Jackson all have plenty of P2 options, mostly PAC schools. Marquell Fraser got high marks during the summer but aside from a SD-UT article and a few Nolan Narian tweets, he has all but disappeared. |

Yep, although I'd say the "perfect mixture" would include Bailey, since he's basically a freebie. : ) Adding Leaf wouldn't hurt either...but we do (or will) have plenty of options at the #4 if push comes to shove. |
