In case you thought that the Allies never made mistakes in WWII, this story will set you straight. What a mess Tiger was! I should point out that this article, though interesting, does not report that the Allied naval escorts were not in full force, a fact that allowed the German E-boats to attack the LSTs, sinking 2 and killing hundreds of U.S. soldiers. www.npr.org/2012/04/28/151590212/operation-tiger-d-days-disastrous-rehearsalThe comments are interesting. But respondent Payne has it backwards. The Brits were supposed to capture Caen rather quickly but butted their heads against the Wehrmacht for weeks. All in all, the Germans held on very well against overwhelming odds. And with no air cover. But once the Germans cracked in August, they basically had to run for their lives all the way out of France. AzWm
