www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/aug/21/sdsu-basketball-recruiting-justin-hutson-las-vegas/A key ingredient in SDSU’s recipe for meteoric success has been the unsung, unknown, unfancied player. D.J. Gay became arguably the best point guard in school history and quarterbacked the 34-3 team that reached the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in 2011; he was an undersized zero-star recruit from Poly High in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles. Jamaal Franklin became Mountain West player of the year and a second-round NBA draft pick; he was a zero-star recruit from the high desert outpost of Phelan and played on his club’s B team that was relegated to the tiny gyms in the Las Vegas tournaments. “We don’t worry so much about who is recruiting a guy or what his rating is as much as what do our eyeballs tell us?” Fisher says. “We’re not afraid to take a guy that only lower-level schools are really interested in. If we think they’re good enough and there’s legitimate interest, we’ll pursue them.” Another excellent Ziegler write up!

I'm itching for some goddamn Aztec hoops. Is it November yet?
Article was really good, and there's recruiting nuggets in there for anyone who cares to dig a little.

Great depth by Zeigler, to show what the coaches go through during the busy evaluation periods . Also there is disparity between what the benefits the blue blood coaches have and the "others" Little doubt that at least 60% of a coach's job is trying to evaluate talent , get them interested in your program and of course signing them . No matter how good of a coaching staff you have , if you do not have quality players you are not going to get a good run in MM . Yes there are coaches that can recruit but can not coach .

Loved this. You can't teach hustle. But you can pay it.

Hopefully this leads to a few big signings! Lets start this weekend, McDainels and Matthews.

Melton also has been high on the Aztecs, love his game but needs to develop his outside shot.

It's like the opposite of a baseball saber-metric approach and it works well somehow... I would like to see CBB get to the point of advanced stats showing how a player can grow on another level of projections.

Shows how hard coaches at G5 schools need to work to evaluate and then even harder sign recruits . Blue Bloods have advantage with money available to recruit . Would be a great clip for the Fisher show on Fox Sports SD
Priority number 1 is adding C/ PF . Unless the presentation is totally incredible doubt McDaniels does not take other visits . Full recruiting lasts this year until Nov 8 , so roller coaster ride.
Would be great to at least get comments from the recruits about their visit out there . As there is strong likelihood of had a great visit ,
