It's nice I guess that Rocky showed some loyalty to one of his buddies, but there are a myriad of reasons to rejoice that Bob is no longer with the program. I'm almost as happy as the UCLA fans were when he was shown the door at Westwood. Sayo - freakin - nara.

Looks like how the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl.
Uh, dude. Run the ball in. Do what you do best: Power-I, jumbo package, hat on a hat, follow your blocker.
Oldie Out

We potentially had significantly better team than that UNC team we lost to, which you could see flashes of at different points in this game. It's hard to overstate the retarding effects Toledo's offense and QK's arm had on this program.
Keep in mind we lost by 3 in this game and our QB handed the opponent 14 points on the road on the east coast. QK had 2 ints in the 4th quarter during which UNC put up 17 points to come back and win.

Just to be Devil's Advocate, and in no way am I Toledo's Advocate, but I don't think Bob told QK to "throw the ball against your body". That play was as much, if not more, on QK as it was on the OC. A competent QB throws that ball away in that situation so they can regroup and decide what to call next.

There were a handful of passes on that last drive that were dropped picks. To not take a timeout and setup a run play and safe pass plays (i.e. screens) is ridiculous. Mistakes like this seem to be a trademark of this coaching regime. Please Rocky, prove me wrong this season and make winning significant games the expectation, not the rare exception.

To me the most questionable thing RL has done since taking over was hiring Toledo, and it's not even close. If his decision to give Horton the nod backfires I want him replaced asap. He can run a tight ship of players, and I love how physical and tough we've become, but if he can't properly identify coaching talent for the OC role than all else is a wash.

Dont forget identifying players that can actually play QB. What an abomination that has been. Even a pedestrian QB would have helped SDSU reach a modicum of success, despite poor coaching decisions.

The loss goes beyond Bob Toledo. We should have also fired our defense of coordinator. That game was lost by many factors.
1.) Our defense all year long struggled in the 4th quarter to stop anybody. It was either lack of depth or Rocky's prevent defense. The game changer was the 90 yard bomb by UNC early in the 4th quarter. 2.) Rockys defense also stinks in the red zone. At some point our defense needs to stop teams to 3pts as oppose to giving up easy touchdown. 3.) Special Teams- Do I need to say anything else. 4.) When you are starting a walk on quarterback as a head coach you need to re-evaluate your recruiting process. I know that once in a while you get a special "walk- on" but the team was full of them in critical spots. Once Ruffin and DP went out due to injury we were toast. Rocky has failed to recruit enough skill guys and speed on offense. If DP sufferes any type of injury this year we will be toast. We failed to upgrade or WR position again this year.

Passing on first down was the right play. It didn't work. QK passed for over 300 yards that game and was throwing the ball well. If we never passed the ball, we would have 3 plays. By passing on first down, we could run 4 plays. There would have been 14 seconds left on an incomplete pass. That means we could take 7 and 6 seconds on 2nd and 3rd down runs and still had a 4th down. If we never passed the ball time would run out after 3rd down. Passing on 3rd down is worse because they would expect exactly that, since it is essentially forced.
If the Aztecs ran on first down, time out, ran on second down, timeout, and ran on third down, and the time ran out because we had no timeouts, could you imagine the same folks saying we should have passed on first down. I can.

*Read the description* *Notice a link* Nope, I'm not clicking that shite. I was there. I read the title of the thread. It refers to an offensive coordinator who lead the team to over 500 yards in that game and engineered and perfect 4 minute drive to run all time time off the clock and score the game winning TD. It was undone by a bad pass on a good play. A correct call under the time/time out/score situation. You tell me: suppose we run on first down and get 2 yards. What do you do then?

A competent QB throws that ball away in that situation so they can regroup and decide what to call next. QK should never have been given the green light to pass from the 10 yd line or closer for a TD. He didn't have the arm to zip it in there. With those floaters in a short field it had to be a perfect pass or it resulted in an INT. Holy Toledo!! LOL

Run it in with Chad Young and a TE blocking for DJ. He's a tougher inside runner than given credit for. Even if didn't make it in, we would have had time to immediately call the last time out. A 2 yd run attempt off tackle doesn't use up 14 seconds. If he lost yards, then I guess a pass is picking the better poison I suppose. The point is Toledo didn't use the clock properly and relying on a floating pass by QK was the wrong play.

QK passed for one TD and 2 INTs before that "bad pass on a good play" for his 3rd INT. Pumphrey had 104 yds on 17 carries and 2 TDs, no fumbles. So who would you trust with the ball on potentially the last 2 plays so close to the goal line?

We ran the ball in the red zone very well against them, we had time, TO's, and downs. A rollout pass (with Kaehler throwing it) would not be the call. Did you agree with Marshawn not getting the rock in the Super Bowl? It was the same thing.

Let's not anticipate injuries but behind DP are two very talented backs in Marcus Stamps and Rasheed Penny. Far from burnt toast as you will see in fall camp. It's the OL that must come together for whomever. Also, disagree that we are weak at WR. Hunkie Cooper will get the best out of them. Watch for Micah Holder to emerge and perhaps Jabril Clewis. Let me also help you out on defense. Rocky does not play a "prevent" defense. They attack and attack to confuse. Sometimes a QB makes a perfect read and has time. Happens. The acid test approaches on Sept. 12.
