This quote gets a chucle for me! "Since last summer, Air America has been heard in the Washington area on WZAA (1050 AM). Its audience has been so small that Arbitron, which compiles radio ratings, was unable to detect any listeners for WZAA during several weeks in December."

With such a pathetic market penetration, one wonders why any stations at all were willing to continue carrying this garbage. If Air America had presented less hate-filled diatribes, perhaps it would have done better. I think it still would have failed, but at least it would have failed honorably. AzWm

Perhaps. I did not listen to Air America much after an initial listen and I don't watch Olberman/Maddow. However, I can't stand Hannity/Beck/ O'Reilly etc. Maybe the middle and independents are free thinkers who don't like to be told how to think by brow beaters. Yet you guys on here want to blow the horn for FOX and feel some kind of "victory" by their ratings. FOX has a limited, yet dependable, base who have certain hot buttons and beliefs that are predictable and can be easily targeted (marketed to). If the failure of Air America was some kind of indicator of what some on here consider the "opposition", Democrats, environmentalists, etc. and the FOX strategy of us against them has finally won out ... who are the "independents" whom the Right can't seem to capture or dominate?

I suggest that you are reading this wrong. I don't see any mention of Fox, only the failed message of this faction of hate from the fringe left at the now defunct Air America. I will admit that I notice the ratings of TV network news or commentary shows and take those ratings as a pulse on what the country prefers. We are a middle right leaning Christian nation and that is what those ratings show.

I thought Beck was Mormon?.. they are Right of what the Nation (sample size) prefers.

My wife, who holds a doctorate in sociology from the Univ. of Minnesota, says that all religious groups are called cults until they achieve a certain level of power and influence! Don't forget, the first Christians were likewise called members of a cult by the Romans. AzWm

Again, we might be splitting hairs, but I would argue that the fare on Air America was much further away from center than those you mention.

According to the Union this morning, 12% of Californians identify strongly with the tea party.

The Tea Party folks also include Democrats and Independents who want spending brought under control among other things.

The original one which was a grassroots movement or the ones that have been co-opted by the RNC or right wing special interests?

I know that you intended that to be a smart butt comment, but it is a bad question. The RNC only hopes that the Tea Party folks will join with them in lock step. Since Republicans are almost as out of control as far as spending is concerned, that might not happen.
