Is there more to this Juan Williams issue than what NPR says? I would have to say that there is. How about the fact that Williams was told that he was out in a phone call and was specifically denied the chance to talk face-to-face with the higher ups who had made the decision? Is that the "liberal" way to treat an employee? (And, yes, I understand that he was an independent contractor. Call his relationship what you will, he was nevertheless contracted to work for NPR and was not given the chance to have his day in court, so to speak. Isn't that the way heartless fat-cat capitalists treat their workers?) It looks to me, at the very least, that the people who run NPR are cowards. You can't let a man who has worked for you for 10 years, and who has a strong pro-civil rights record, meet with you in person to answer the charge? What crap! Play this clip and see what you think. www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/10/21/juan_williams_npr_fired_him_for_making_bigoted_statement.htmlAzWm

Saying that Liberals are Cowards is redundant. That is how they roll. Their way or the highway.

I am not surprised that NPR would do this, but I am surprised that they would do it to Juan Williams without giving him a chance to explain in detail his thoughts or giving him a chance to revise and extend his remarks. Williams is a real fine voice for liberals and Blacks. NPR is even worse than I thought and should be defunded.

You guys probably hated Juan Williams two days ago. Hey, John, you are way off base with that remark. I can attest that I, personally, have always liked Juan Williams the man. His politics, often not so much, but that's beside the point. He has always seemed to me to be a genuinely gentle man, a real exemplar of what a gentleman should be. NPR has a real problem on their hands. This is not a case of just shooting yourself in the foot. This is a case of blowing your foot off with a bazooka! It looks very much like NPR caved to unwholesome pressure from pro-Arab groups and perhaps even George Soros. Soros has poured a lot of money into NPR and you can bet that there have been strings pulled behind he scenes. Why else did it take NPR three days to fire Williams? No, someone has complained and put pressure on NPR and the latter folded like a cheap umbrella. For various reasons, NPR and National Public TV should be defunded. This incident just adds one more reason. AzWm

I disagree with Williams firing by the way. My beef with Williams is that he let's O'Reilly run over him in most debates. I guess it doesn't matter anyway, because O'Reilly (if you watch closely) only listens to himself.

If it is not viable, then let it go under. Now that Soros has put $1 Mil into NPR, we have even less reason to have any tax payer funding. Your point about Fox is rather funny as well. The combined viewership of ABC, NBC, CBS and all the little cable guys must be at least as much as Fox.

I love how liberals keep pointing to Fox but forget MSNBC which leans farther left than Fox does to the right! And CNN leans slightly to the left of center as well.
If NPR can survive on it's own, that's great. If they can't, then the market has spoken. I don't think we should pay for a biased news outlet like that. Fox certainly isn't getting federal funding (nor should they).
