Well, Eric, guess you will have to live through it again. I lived through Reagan. Again, I asked a question before about should California be let go under. I think it is almost certain that Brown will win, but that he will not be able to avoid more debt or to retire any present debt. Since I do not think that a Republican Congress would bail California out at the expense of the tax payers in the other 49 states, what will be the result?

Things got better while Reagan was in office (the Carter years were a disaster). Things got infinitely worse while Brown was in office. Big difference. Your opinion. No, fact. The economy grew under Reagan. A lot. It was a huge recovery after Carter and the Democrats decimated the economy in the late 70's into the early 80's. (Ever hear of stagflation?) That's just a fact. Reagan and the Republicans stimulated the economy and that led to one of the stronger economic recoveries in modern history following a recession. You may not have liked other things about the Reagan era, but it was an era of economic prosperity and patriotism (especially compared to the disaster that the Democrats created under Carter - and the Democrats are the only ones to blame for that economy as they ran the entire show with the Republicans in the minority in both houses). Brown made similar horrible decisions in California (letting state workers unionize, appointing Rose Bird, opposing Prop 13, etc). We don't need that kind of debacle now. We're in a crisis, and Brown has no history of fixing the state during a crisis, just the reverse (making it worse).

We must be forgetting Brown's positions and results if we are going to return him to Sacramento as Gov. We forget Rose Bird and his stand on Prop 13. We forget how the State laughed almost in unison at him as he unscrewed a couple light bulbs in Sacramento to save energy. If he does indeed get elected, we deserve what we will get.

Erik and aztecwin, how about a bet on the winner between Jerry and Meg? The losers stay off "National Politics until 2011.

Erik and aztecwin, how about a bet on the winner between Jerry and Meg? The losers stay off "National Politics until 2011. Why would anyone bet on that? The polls already show the winner - especially considering all the early voting by mail! This one is, unfortunately, over - and all of California will suffer beause of that. (Well, all of the California residents who actually have decent jobs will suffer, anyway...) This state is a half step from being completely bankrupt, and Jerry isn't going to take it back from the brink - he'll help drive the state over that cliff.

Erik and aztecwin, how about a bet on the winner between Jerry and Meg? The losers stay off "National Politics until 2011. What? Miss the fun? I think we all know who is going to win unless some Moderates wake up. I would rather you tell us all what you think about the prospects for California getting out of debt and getting some business to stay here, start here, or expand here. How will you keep folks with money from moving out? Will other states stand by and let the Federal Government bail us out at the expense of the other 49? With your background, you should be able to comment.
