Is there anybody that is surprised to hear that USD was going to interview Hutson . and Hutson was not going to interview for HC jobs . USD is in the same city as SDSU, so no problem for the family . Right now the leader for the USD job is one of the coaches from Columbia , who had been a coach under Eagan . Decision likely during MM finals .

Anyone know who else they're interviewing? Saw rumors, but no one confirmed.
Interesting option. He's said he won't "settle", so the question is whether USD has invested the resources (or will) to compete in that conference? Zags are & will remain light years ahead of everyone else; BYU loses Haws & a couple others, but I'm sure they'll find a 23-year old FR somewhere who's been playing hoops in Russia on a mission; Pepperdine is a growing program & returns a ton. St Mary's has been historically strong for that conference, but loses everyone & could trend down.
But you're losing Dee & Anderson - your primary backcourt. Are you being set up to fail? Do they have the athletes to implement what Justin wants to do on D'?
Seems like a pretty good fit from an expectations (low) & location perspective, but does he see this as a place he can grow & advance, or a place that'll hurt his resume in the long run?
is he better to jump somewhere as a #3 at SDSU or does he wait, knowing he'll get a big salary boost & #2 position in a couple years, and see where that takes him? Would it lead to a better opportunity?

This would be a mad move due to the fact that if he's even slightly successful, he'll be on to bigger and better things. If USD is looking for a short-term solution, then this would be a great hire.

USD would be absolute idiots not to hire him.

If he does land the gig, and not to start any funky rumors but what about DA & DW following him? Seems like 2 players who could be a good cornerstone defensively for the program in a couple years.
Heck, reach out to Darin Johnson at UW & you could recreate the Sarkesian 3....
Hope Hutson a ton of success, but really hope he decides to stick around for a couple more years.

Whoa didn't even think that he would take players with him. The man can recruit. I hate thinking of losing him

Nothing against USD, but I'm not sure how you can win consistently there. Getting players in academically is very hard, so that is against you from the start.
If he goes there I would wish him nothing but the best, but I would think that he would struggle just like previous coaches that have been there before.

I would rather keep Hutson and lose Dutcher if I had my choice. But it is what it is.

I would rather keep Hutson and lose Dutcher if I had my choice. But it is what it is. How about Dutcher coaches for 5-10 and then Hutson comes back and takes over after that. Seems like a great idea to me.

Seems like a great idea to me. Hutson will probably sink or swim as a HC in next decade, meaning if he has a lot of success he'll be at a really good school we won't be able to steal him away from, or if he fails he won't be good enough to be HC.

USD: Where head coaching careers go to die. Jim Harbaugh isn't doing too bad. Yes but it took a DUI to launch Harbaugh into the big time. But for that he might have been cooling his heals on The Mesa. We will lose Hutson some time, just for his sake I hope it is for somewhere with less obstacles than at USD.

Zeigler hinted a strong candidate could be Kyle Smith ,2010- current HC at Columbia ( has HC experience ) was an assistant coach at USD from 1992-2000 , then an assistant at St Mary's 2001-2010 , set up their offense and top recruiter ( helped get them into MM ). So he knows WCC and recruiting . Is 46 years old and from Texas ( another recruiting area).
