What a mess. Here's one detailed argument in favor of allowing the Kurds, Shias, and Sunnis all have their own sovereign areas. In any event, it appears that the troubles in Iraq and Syria are far from over.

PS: To be fair, Joe Biden, who in most cases acts like a doofus, was saying this a long time ago. But I'll bet he was deluded enough to think that we could somehow bring about such a dismemberment of Iraq peacefully. That seems unlikely.

If we've learned anything, it's that Western backed partition plans solve problems long term.

5 bucks if you can define partition without looking it up. Just send that five buck to the Aztec Club. Would it double your support?

Iraq and Syria are artificial states broken off from the old Ottoman Empire. An independent Kurdistan should happen. The problem is that the Kurds make up portions of four countries; Iraq, Syria, Iran, and Turkey. Turkey has said multiple times that if an independent state is declared, they will invade. Since they are part of NATO, who would we support?
