...and we both had a great time.
She plays high school freshman basketball, so she knows how much of that is a game and how much of it is a show. I told her going in that she wouldn't see very many traveling calls or much defensive play by the Washington Generals, and she quickly understood what I was talking about.
And, sure enough, despite some cheating by the Generals (including underhandedly getting one of their own former players assigned as a ref) the Globetrotters managed to pull out the win with a last second 4 point shot! (It would have been bad had Hi-Lite missed that shot...)
Unless I misheard, it was former Globetrotter player Jimmy Blacklock as coach for the Globetrotters! He was on the team the last time I saw them (same venue, 35 years ago). Bigger crowd that time, but the Globetrotters were a phenomenon then (lots of TV appearances, and even their own Saturday morning cartoon show).
They're still a lot of fun and have multiple teams touring (so they can play 3 cities on the same day). Today's great personalities were Hi-Lite and Cheese. (They go by nicknames almost exclusively.)
