Was it when Carter spoke to us as adults and challenged us and when Regan spoke to us as the heir of a disney cartoon?
The malaise speech is truly one of the peaks of human government
What do we want out of life? How could we have allowed this intellectual call of arms to have fallen by the way side 30 years ago? How can we become the city on the hill in praxis and not just theory?
We have a general election coming up with lackluster candidates and straight up boobs.
Shame on us, all of us

It is both sad that Carter did not believe what he said and that you would characterize Ronald Reagan, the greatest President of our lifetime, in such an unkind and unknowing manner.
I do not think we have ever really "lost it", we just stray from adherence to the Constitution and Conservative ideals from time to time. The good news is we always find our way back toward the correct path.

We find our way back to the path of greatness for the country when we leave the fallacies of conservatism behind. Always has been and always will be. Conservatives never bring anything to the table but discord and disaster for us all.
It seems that the conservatives have forgotten that the Constitution was formed to make a stronger national government. We already had a weak national government that was subordinate to the States. It was not working. Not to say that everyone agreed. The fight between those who want "states rights" and those who see us as a country, and not conferation of states, has been with us from the start.

Part of the reason is that we were able top dominate for quite a while. We had almost no competition from anywhere... we drove the World's economic engine and in a lot of ways the cultural one. At one time, everybody envied America...from our cars to Disneyland and on and on. We had unlimted expansion with (what seemed like) unlimited resources. China and India...big deal... who cares... 3rd World countires... struggle beteen the Left and the Right..who cares..there was enough space and resources for everybody....and on and on. The "Left" ruined America??...the Right ruined America?? There are other bigger factors that are just no fun to talk about.

Mostly fact, but without arguing the points what issue do you not like to talk about. You don't have to make a case for your thought or position, just state the issue.

The malaise speech is truly one of the peaks of human government Oh brother, what next? The 800 Billion in the make-work, no-growth, pork-laden Stimulus Bill is another peak in Human Government? His big failure here was to believe that his failure in leadership and popularity was the fault of the average American's attitude and not his policies or his persona. Ala Tolner..... "I know what I am doing.....". His goose was cooked for various reasons, many times over, but this speech turned up the heat.

Meg Shitman says she is going to fix our public schools. THAT, right there, is a good reason why it would be idiotic to elect that crazy bitch. Join the liberal majority and take the step away from public schools and allow private schools to teach our young. Private schools could function on 60% of what public schools cost us now. We could save money and greatly increase the quality of education for eager minds.
