Tough not to make the comparison, but Malik Pope looked like the second-coming of Kevin Durant last night against Colorado State. I saw him play in HS the summer before he broke his leg and I could see the vast basketball potential. He was skinny then and still is.
I am certain he will gain some weight, but with his height, length, athleticism, and skill set, he could be a Top NBA Draft pick within a few years. Pope's break out game against Colorado State may cause Aztecs Coaching Staff to change starting line-up, again.

Someone needs to print the American Sniper poster and put Malik Pope's face on it.

Hopefully he won't leave for the NBA (if he is really that good enough) until after his junior year. I'd love to see a seasoned Kell with Pope, Z, Shrigs, Hemsley, Zabo and DA. Hopefully we'll get Michael Cage to add beef to Buddah Jones.

And I don't say that because of the CSU game. I won't be disappointed or attack the kid if it doesn't work out that way, but seeing his ability this soon after not playing ball for two years while acclimating to the high level D1 game is just amazing. He's got draft potential based on frame, athleticism, and fluidity alone. If he can consistently shoot anywhere near 45%fg and 35-40%3p, while learning constantly on the defensive end... man. edit: oh, and let's temper the Durant nicknames. They look similar physically and playing on the court, but if Malik turns out to be spectacular and gets drafted, he'll be MALIK POPE from SDSU, not baby KD.

If dude continues to rise and causes us to have an incredible run in the tourney he may not even be with us next year.

Let's elevate him to god-like status after a couple games -- and then crap all over him as soon as we find out he's not perfect...

Durant is a scorer and a liability on the defensive end. Not a team player. That's why he will never win a NBA Championship He is not in Kawhi's league.

The MP was on patrol on offense all over the court . But Fisher was not too pleased with his D , when he was playing the 4 position had trouble deciding when to double down low .

Im excited for the freshman Pope. but lets not get ahead of ourselves. If he can repeat what he did to CSU, SDSU will have something by next year. Dont heap the pressure or expectations on yet. He has a long way to go to get the collegiate game down let alone the pros.
