1. We could/should have won despite an 18 point deficit. 2. This guy.Note: Correlation does not mean causation.

The last time I blamed officials for an SDSU loss was the non-fumble at BYU and with due respect, I saw nothing to suggest this ref was why we lost.

Compared to Franklin's last year tge road officiating has been pro Aztecs.
I have not seen a game this year officiated as bad as the worse 5 that year. I think there is typically a home team bias but this yar it has been small and in our favor at Viejas.
The original poster was clear that he was not implying causation but I wanted to add my opinion that the officiating for both those games was within my expectation for home team (implying I think the home team got a few more calls there way than SDSU favor - especially the out of bounds off of CSU leg that was missed).

He also worked our win at Laramie this year, (he rotates between the MWC and the Pac-12.)
The referees have been OK this year. Obviously Verne Harris is a good referee or he would not have worked at the Final Four last year.

REFS have nothing to do with it. Just play harder and smarter. or smarter and harder. Lot of dumb fouls and turnovers, missed free throws have more to do with the losses.

Those were the only Aztecs games this year where our opponents had single digit turnovers.

Down 1 late in the game, AQ drives the lane and gets fouled, no call. JJ grabs the rebound, gets the call, misses 2. CSU goes down and extends the lead.
It's not me saying the game was impacted by a blown call. This is what Fish said in the press conference yesterday.

Those were the only Aztecs games this year where our opponents had single digit turnovers. Fresno State had 6 turnovers Colorado State had 5 turnovers Next least turnovers this season by an opponent, 10. Interestingly enough: Against Fresno State the Aztecs had the most turnovers they have had all season, 18. Against Colorado State the Aztecs had the least turnovers they have had all season, 7.

Those were the only Aztecs games this year where our opponents had single digit turnovers. Our 18 TO's vs. Fresno may help explain that loss. Only 7 TO's against CSU, but we had more chances to win that one. As a fan, I noticed there was a "Harris" factor, a player and a ref in the first loss and a ref in both losses. Also, I had my TV on mute and took a bong hit in the second half against CSU. (Kidding, kidding) "It's only weird if it doesn't work."

I suspect that if the ref would shoot our free throws for us we would win more often. Pretty sure they would shoot a higher percentage.

REFS have nothing to do with it. Just play harder and smarter. or smarter and harder. Lot of dumb fouls and turnovers, missed free throws have more to do with the losses. This ^^^^^^^ I thought there were some terrible calls vs the Aztecs the other night, but WE blew it, not the refs. It is always the games that we are not playing well that the blown ref calls seems worse. When we win, they are normally forgotten or dismissed. In our losses, those bad calls are actually just gasoline on the fire. We usually start those fires with our poor play and we are the reason we get burned in these losses. I will say I hammered the refs for many bad calls in a few of our wins, and when you lose by a bucket or two, those bad calls contribute to the L. There were 4 major blown calls the other night that were confirmed clearly by replay. 3 balls that went out of bounds under the CSU basket awarded to the Rams- they got possession when they shouldn't have and they scored on all 3 of those incorrectly awarded possessions. The 4th was the JJO foul call when he stood there, arms straight up on D, and the CSU player with the ball jumped up to shoot and initiated contact - that is not a foul, it's never a foul, he was stationary and entitled to stand there, his arms straight up as per at the Concept of Verticality. He could have also jumped straight up and it still would never be a foul. It was an atrocious foul call live and even worse on Slo mo replay. Fisher went nuts on that call, which he rarely does. He was right. And of course, CSU made both free throws. Look, we coulda and shoulda won. We blew it. But those 4 calls, blown with 3 refs on the floor, were huge misses and really bad. 3 of the 4 I called watching on my TV before seeing a replay. They're standing right there and all 3 missed it. We harp on our guys when they play poorly, the refs don't get a pass. Those guys works a boatload of games and are now making serious cash- so much so that most only ref for a living- yes, even the college refs. They have got to be better than they were the other night. These games are too important.

I thought the refs were bad in this game, the Chol fouls were pretty legit (maybe not the 4th one), but overall other than the call on JJ it was just typical home court advantage refing nothing too crazy. I actually felt we played pretty well against CSU they just made extremely tough 3s. Against fresno though, we were awful

Against fresno though, we were awful It seems safe to say the Bulldog loss was primarily because of our high number of turnovers. These crazy comebacks are hollow though. The 19-1 run UNM victory last season was so satisfying, but coming back from far behind, only to lose says something about how our team still needs seasoning. The Rams game was worse than the FSU loss because, while we ended the FSU game like garbage, we had several shots to win in Fort Collins. Revenge would be sweet tonight. For once, I hope the odds-makers are onto something.

The teams made shots against the Aztecs defense and solved their press.
At some point, Aztecs may have to pick certain stages of the game to press because teams are getting easy baskets. And, when teams get easy baskets, then players believe they can make jump shots.
Tough to stop teams when their players are making shots. Likewise, it is tough for team to stop the Aztecs when players are making shots!
