I've often wondered. I know D'Erryl Williams and Dakarai Allen were recruited as a package deal, but which was the player they were really after? Dakarai definitely. They were after him a lot longer than D'Erryl

D Allen has earned time on the court but don't underestimate the importance of having an energy guy like him coming off the bench. If we can learn one thing from the last two games it is that our bench is a strength which won us those games - and we don't even have Polee playing.

The Aztecs need some kind of balance to start the game. Dakari has been coming on but even with his recent slashing to the basket his offensive game is still a work in progress. Shrigs is streaky but at least he presents the threat of making an outside shot. If Allen starts Aqeel Quinn is the only outside threat, and with Spencer and Allen on the floor at the same time it's basically 3 on 5 at the offensive end. This is why we see Fish sub in pairs, Chol replaces Spencer and Allen subs in for Shrigs, we trade offense for defense at different positions. I hope it's left as is. The one that perplexes me is why Malik Pope doesn't more minutes. He has a freaky skill set and is looking more and more comfortable, he a matchup nightmare nearly anywhere on the court. Pope doesn't play a lot because his defense is still not there. In games when we have a decent lead we will see more of him. One look and you can see he has a ton of ability but I did agree with the CBS announcer in the UNLV game where he said Pope needs to play more inside. If you want to see a team with some great individual talent just look at UNLV and then look at their record. I am hopeful that Pope can earn more minutes this year by getting better on defense, rebounding, and positioning himself better in our offensive scheme because come tournament time we are going to need more offense.

I'm not so worried about who starts, but who finishes. And Allen has been in there the last two games down the stretch in the last 5 minutes of the game. He's a good free throw shooter too so far this year which will help his late minutes cause. Good to see Chol also in there at the end.

Players, coaches, admins, parents, etc. at SDSU apparently DO read this crap and Twitter. Sure, they should have thicker skin and be able to take it, as they are in the general public. Just as we should all have thicker skin if someone jumps on us here. If you want to be a douche, be a douche. Link? Looks like I have you as a role model? But high school seems to be taking you longer to shake off, yes? Writes the guy who better hope that he doesn't meet Rocky Long in person and utter even half the crap he spews here. Beyond that, your responses/questions indicate that I inadvertently hit your g-spot. It's what I've heard from multiple sources. Believe what you want and I will what I want.

Shrigley with a very good game including 3 blocked shots. That is why he starts. He can do this every game

Shrigs missed a couple defensive assignments by playing really aggressively, but I'd imagine that's what Fish wants with our strong help side D. On top of that, he closed out amazingly well on a lot of shots. Knocked down his shots.
I agree DA needs more time, but a) at who's expense, and b) Shrigs served up a nice, warm bowl of shut the fck up to his haters.

Shrigley had a very good first half , will see what happens at CSU . AFA is brutal after losing their top two players .

Well let me actually back track and say, it doesn't matter if DA starts or not BUT he SHOULD always be on the floor when the opposing teams best perimeter player is in the game. I agree DA is our best defender on the perimeter. It was obvious in Long Beach game. Still I think Shrig has a beautiful 3 especially when on which is getting more regular. In Fisher I trust... So I believe he has the right starters.

Shrigley's FG% for the season is 28.2%. Chol is 61.2%. Chol shoots under the hoop, Shrig from the perimeter. Cannot compare them. I guarantee Chol shooting from locations Shrig shoots would be nowhere close to Shrig even fully uncovered. Real bad comparison.

The one that perplexes me is why Malik Pope doesn't more minutes. He has a freaky skill set and is looking more and more comfortable, he a matchup nightmare nearly anywhere on the court. Because Fisher is bringing him along slowly and cautiously due to 2 consecutive years with broken legs. Also because of the injuries he has less experience than many/most freshmen and has a lot to learn. I think Fisher is using him perfectly and that he has a ton of up side but only if he can stay healthy. In Fisher I trust ...

Shrigley had a very good first half , will see what happens at CSU . AFA is brutal after losing their top two players . They may be brutal, but I predict they'll adjust to losing those 2 players, and beat someone very good in our league at home before the year is out.

Shrigley had a very good first half , will see what happens at CSU . AFA is brutal after losing their top two players . He also had three blocks in the second half He still makes defensive lapses but now they are just from being too aggressive. Nobody will ever be perfect and those are the types of errors coaches are okay with. Allen is great off the bench. He's earned his PT. But, Shrigs brings more to the table. Also, the reason Pope doesn't get more PT is his defense is terrible. When he's in position and aware of it, he's great due to his skillset and talent. However, he's lost on D a great deal of time and when he isn't, he is often unsure and hesitates.

Fish knows what he's doing. It's all about match ups. If the opposing teams got a guy that's hot you're going to see a lot of the DA. This was a game where Shrigs was hot and could easily hang with any of there players on D.
Can't wait for Pope to figure it all out. It's coming along slowly, just got to get the AAU and rust shaked off. Pretty sure he's never been asked to play the balls to wall, switching every screen, type defense Fish expects. If he gets it by March look out.

Bad habits that he probably got away with all day long in high school being the tallest/most athletic on the court. He got caught up on some defensive switches last night also that led to some easy buckets from his primary assignement. Overall though, he is getting more and more comfortable each game. I love how he pushes the ball up the court. Would like to see him be even more aggressive on offense. His defense and timing on the court are progressing, and the more he plays, the more film he has to watch and learn. The kid is a freak. He will be so good at this game as his career develops.
