Once again The Chargers fall short. Does Rivers have another season in him or do the Bolts begin to think about a new QB?

Injuries really caught up with the Chargers.
5 different guys played Center, arguably the most important position on the offensive line. And that's just scratching the surface. Even so, they ended up with a winning record. What they need to do for next season is to get depth on the roster to be able to deal with those injuries.

I really felt this team over achieved this year. Multiple injuries to an already thin roster created a team that should have been under .500. They won some improbable games that gave them a chance but IMHO, they aren't that good.
They are probably the only plus .500 team that has a need at EVERY position except QB. There are no difference makers on offense, not much speed. The defense has no strength and has to rely on guile to get off the field. The last few top draftees have been hurt a bunch and we don't know if they will ever stay on the field.
I really think they need a top level WR. but you could make an argument for Nose Tackle, oline, tight end, corner, inside lb,
Tough offseason

Oline help and a pass rusher (or two) are needed the most.

Oline help and a pass rusher (or two) are needed the most. Yes. I can't think of a game after we beat the Jets, where we won at the line of scrimmage. I thought the Chargers did farely well for not doing very well on either line. Rivers is a stud, we are lucky to have him.

What they need is better scouting.

They really needed a change of scenery and new ownership. But they just can't pull the plug and move to LA. Chargers are stagnating. If Chargers ownership had really made an effort LA would have worked. Oh well.

Once again The Chargers fall short. Does Rivers have another season in him or do the Bolts begin to think about a new QB? How about trade Rivers, Gates and Weddle to the Bucs for #1 rights to Mariota and Mike Evans WR? Think that would work? Bucs will be better and Chargers better. Not a long term deal for the Bucs though. Its win and make playoff possibility that they will not have if they just sign Mariota but Chargers will be a playoff team if they do that deal. Somehow get Gavin Escobar from the Cowboys. They don't want him and Witten still has a few years left. Chargers may even be able to get Ronnie Hillman as the Broncos will probably want to keep CJ Anderson. Possible?

Been thinking pkg Rivers for #1 pick myself.
I've seen enough of him over the years. But with the bad back and prime years past him I couldn't see anyone taking that deal.

The most you could get for Rivers (considering his age and injury issues) would be a 3rd round pick. It just wouldn't be worth it to trade him. The guy is a team leader and one of the smartest QB's in the league (football smarts). The problem is that the line in front of him was decimated by injuries this year, and the running game was hobbled as well. Defenses were teeing off on him. Just like Tony Romo in Dallas if you give Rivers a top notch line he'll be an All-Pro.

One thing Rivers has never had is a pro bowl wide receiver. Vincent Jackson was good, but the Chargers have never given Philip a Dez Bryant or Megatron. Allen was kind of invisible this year and Floyd/Royal are decent, but no real playmakers. I wonder if that is where the Bolts should spend their 1st round pick.
