He's not talking about people on this board specifically. He was talking about fans in general.

He's not talking about people on this board specifically. He was talking about fans in general. Come on brother...I know that. I was pointing out to the guys on this board that cannot allow themselves to enjoy the best three four year stretch in Aztec history since Claude Gilbert was the coach.

In all fairness, if he isn't talking about message board heroes... Who IS he talking about?
It isn't like fans have much of an outlet other than the Mesa, and the "media" doesn't really care about Aztec fball one way or another, so...

I would love Rocky Long as a head coach if his teams won anything meaningful, but alas he has not.

2014 = 10-2 2015 = 13-0
I'm glad Rocky knows people expect progress and that some expect more progress. I'm sure his players catch more static from him for spotty performance than he himself suffers from fans.

I don't think rocky was calling out this board specifically. But there are a ton of loud vaginas on here that deserved that jab from Rocky imho.

I think Rocky "Hall Pass" Long was talking to me. Until he wins a meaningful game against mediocre teams outside our conference, I will continue to ride him.. Beating the New Mexico and Wyoming teams of the world means nothing... Losing to directional school in Illinois, UNLV, SJSU, and Fresno has negative impact.

The fact he even mentions it is a bit puzzling. Doesn't every team, college or pro, have a subset of fans that are negative? The fact that people still care after all the program has done the past 30yrs is encouraging to me.

SDSU football has come a long way By Matt Calkins You hear a lot of talk these days about the San Diego State football team needing to take the next step. Let’s forget about that for a second, though. Let’s instead take a step back. For just a moment, let’s rewind to 2008, when Coach Rocky Long first joined the Aztecs’ staff as a defensive coordinator. That year didn’t go so well. The Aztecs went 2-10, losing seven games by at least 21 points, one by 49, and one by 63. It was the ninth straight season SDSU failed to produce a winning record, and if the previous eight years were ugly, this was a platypus with acne. It’s important to remember that not-so-distant time when sizing up the Aztecs today. It’s important to remember that, as everyone awaits the next step, they’ve already taken a sizable leap. Some people as just negative. It is in their genes, because who we are is programmed into us. Trying to use logic to change genenically programmed behavior is misplaced energy.
We could be 13-0 and they would say we just have an easy schedule.
My advice is to just enjoy how good thing are to be an Aztec football fan currently and not to respond to the negative nellies.

He's not talking about people on this board specifically. He was talking about fans in general. exactly. plus it goes beyond sports... sports just tends to bring it out in the open. there are some people that no matter what you do or say will find the negative in it. hi. here's a hundred dollar bill. a hundred dollar bill?!? what am i supposed to do with that? when i go to spend it, no one will want to break it. couldn't you give me five 20's instead?

Haha. I have been posting about the "angry loud minority" here for years. When you read the posts you would think everyone wants to fire the coach, but when you examine it deeper its really just the same posters saying the same thing over and over again. Every time someone puts it to to a poll the majority is overwhelmingly in support of the coach Long. All the "negativity" and inability to enjoy success by some is why I rarely post here anymore.

It's always a good sign when your coach is worried about a handful of people on a message board.

Considering the recent history of Aztec football, the guy is doing a pretty good job. Just don't expect this program to successfully ascend to any higher levels of competition under his leadership. That's how we roll in the MW. It is what it is.

I fought the negative nellies last year a whole bunch. I put together thoughtful, well researched posts, made accurate comparisons, defended Rocky, put the logic out there that is a good coach, not a great one, but the one we need to position us for a P5 invite, etc.
All of it was a waste of time in terms of convincing any of the negative nellies. So, now I just read their posts (sometimes skip them once they start saying the same thing over and over and over again) and feel bad for them. I too want the program to grow and get better and win against good competition and fill the Murph/Q, become a top 25 team. But the way to do that is NOT by firing Rocky. He has us on the right track, moving the right direction and winning. We WILL continue to slowly get better and better and that is fine with me. I think that is the FASTEST way to the top level goals - not firing him and starting all over. That direction has been tried over and over since Claude Gilbert and it has produced horrible results.
Stay with Rocky, he will get us there and set us up for our best chance to get an invite to the P5.
Go Aztecs!
