Ugly game in Vista. Chris Hauser tries to run up the score at the end of the 2nd quarter, but the Grizzlies run out of time. No love lost between these two coaching staffs, and tonight's game isn't going to make things any better.
At half...
Mission Hills 35 Vista 7

Final score
Mission Hills 49 Vista 7
Ugh.
Mission Hills made a very good defense look inept. Their offense is outstanding. That is a talented, disciplined, well coached team. But I still strongly dislike Chris Hauser and wouldn't want him back at Vista.

My guys are getting a little sloppy on D. They gave up 10 last night. Next week, the biggest game in the East County all season. El Cap v. Helix.

I've heard some things about him that don't exactly paint the picture of a coach who is strong on ethics or integrity. I don't know if they're true or not, but when you look at the big picture of what we do know as fact it sure makes you wonder... I actually had a talk with Dan Williams last year about the changes in demographics and the quality of players he had to work with and he stated point blank that he wanted to build the Panthers football team the right way and do it honestly and by the rules. He isn't willing to cut corners or bend said rules as far as they can go without getting the program penalized. That's why Vista has been vulnerable to those changes in demographics and has years where the talent base that they can draw from is much lower than in other years. Amazingly, Mission Hills and some other programs never seem to have changes in demographics or years with significantly lower talent than in their best years. That must be nice.

Amazingly, Mission Hills and some other programs never seem to have changes in demographics or years with significantly lower talent than in their best years. That must be nice. I had a buddy who was really plugged in to SD High football. He coached at an un-named school. He has also passed away. He explained that one of the reasons that the Panthers were so strong for so long was the Pop Warner feeder system. He said that the feeder leagues all played the same O and D as the panthers. He also said the Vista had a huge area to draw from, and when RBV opened, Vista would begin a decline. I think that opening Mission Hills further depleted the numbers for Vista. I would be interested to see which school the Pop Warner teams favor. It does make a difference. Helix draws most of its kids from two, and before Gordon Wood took over (the Reggie/Alex teams), the kids in those leagues split between in one case Helix and Grossmont, and in the other, Monte Vista, Mt Miguel and Helix. A few years after Wood took over, most of those kids came to Helix. When he moved North, and Donny took over, the kids were spilt again. Now, with Troy Starr in charge, they are back at Helix.
