All,
I was impressed with the attendance on Saturday night. It looked good on TV, and it seemed like there was good crowd noise. We outdrew every team in the MW Conference this past week. That includes Colorado State that was playing its biggest game in a decade and Boise State that was playing its rival on National TV.
If we beat Nevada, and Boise State on the road, we will ultimately be coming home to Aztec Warrior Stadium to close out the year against a good Air Force team and an enigmatic SJSU club. The SJSU club could be for the MW West Division. If we are 8-3 going into that game, I truly believe it will possible for us to have 45,000 people there.
Just win.

All very true and exciting to think about. A big win vs Nevada and the SkyShow game vs Idaho could be a very fun atmosphere leading up to that Boise matchup.

WEEK 8 SDSU - 35,686 BSU - 35,008 CSU - 32,546 AFA - 25,017 WYO - 19,627 SEASON AVERAGE FS - 35,857 BSU - 34,418 SDSU - 31,484 AFA - 31,200 HAW - 28,683 CSU - 26,518 UNR - 25,305 UNM - 23,012 WYO - 21,836 USU - 21,609 UNLV - 15,664 SJSU - 13,164
As you can see, attendance is fine. We just need a new stadium. A new stadium would immediately increase season ticket sales, and would facilitate more walkups. It would show the community that we are invested in improving the program.

If it plays out like that we could get 50K.
The week before SJSU game we play AFA. The Thursday before that game the basketball team plays Bakersfield on Fox Sports San Diego. That is the perfect place to spend a little money on advertising that game. It hits the perfect demographic: San Diegans, Sports Fans, and mostly (at least) casual Aztec fans. The hook for the game should be Pumphrey putting up Faulk-type nmumbers. People on the fense about a game need a hook.
Our next home game is the Sky Show with Idaho. Idaho's average rush yards allowed per carry is 6.3. They average giving up 268 yards a game on the ground against very weak opponents. What better time than to have Pumphrey put up a 300 yard game? Faulk exploded on the scene with a 300 yard game against Pacific. He is the hook we need to get crowds back to the stadium.
Att Yards Avg TD 298 1,874 6.3 21 Idaho defense against the Rush 265 1,630 6.2 15 Faulk's best year.
Idaho makes below average running backs look like Marshall Faulk.

In Ronnie's sophomore year we had 57k vs Washington state and 55k for Boise state. No reason we can't get 50k if we go into that game 8-3 with a very entertaining running game

Washington state was skyshow, for sure accurate. And I wouldn't doubt the Boise number either, Boise fans were in full force.

A new stadium isn't necessary, all we need to do is win and we'll practically fill up the Q BTW, I threw out those numbers off of memory but it was actually 52k for Boise

This is not exclusively a San Diego phenomenon. Look at the Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Bruins, Trojans, Clippers, Ducks, Kings (both), A's.... and the list goes on. A stadium will not change that. A new stadium becomes an event just as a new coach is an event and will spark short term interest. A team that wins becomes an event. We Californians like events. SDSU football is taking baby steps towards becoming an event (AKA a winning program) and the crowds are increasing in baby steps.
As the title of this post reads.. a little early... I say you're looking ahead way too early! Go Aztecs, In Rocky I trust!

I agree with most of the comments, but even a good team will have trouble drawing a decent crowd on a Friday night against Aif Force.

Always take statistics like that listed on Wikipedia with a grain of salt. The actual turnstile numbers are significantly different.
There's a reason why the football program is still in the red.

Having said that, things are MUCH better than they were when Chuck "Not for" or "Third and" Long was here.

Actually, there were a couple games UNDER 10k butts in seats (which we found out about when the UT reported the actual turnstile numbers). We really hired the wrong Long that time...

When the difference of viewing a game is significantly improved, like Viejas Arena, crowds grow. The "Q" is a very very bad place to watch a football game.

Don't discount the 7:30 PM start time too. If I could be so bold as to use anecdotal evidence, it was the deciding factor allowing myself to attend, as almost all my Saturday afternoons are filled with my kids' sporting events. I'm sure many other fans are in the same boat.
