No, Nevada isn't Florida State or Auburn, but they do have a good football program and they're coming off a decisive win over BYU (gotta love them just for that!), so this is a very important game for the Aztecs.
A win there goes a long way towards helping SDSU achieve a conference title. A win there would also go a long way towards proving that this IS a good Aztec team.
Rocky, Bob, and company have two weeks to prepare, so prep time won't be an issue. They can get it done, even if the odds are against them. (They HAVE done this before...)
How big would a win IN Nevada be for the Aztecs? I'm saying it would be pretty big. Hopefully come the evening of November 1st we've got an important Aztec win to talk about...

Nevada will be and should be favored. SDSU hasn't been terrific at these kind of upset games (granted, there are some recent exceptions). So yeah, that win would really say something.

It would be Huge. I have trust in this defense to make it happen. And with Ezell abd QK hopefully closer to 100% the offense just might do enough.

With a full 2 weeks to prepare, plus the return of our prodigal children, I hope we win big.

Act like we've been there before, which we have. Last year's defense wasn't as good as this one, yet we still won. Plus with this team, being on the road is meaningless.

I believe we will win, but it will be a tough game. This game makes or breaks our season. if we go 8-4 (6-2) with a win over Nevada we will certainly be in the MW Conference Championship game.
It is a shame we are not sitting at 6-1 right now. If QK had not gotten injured and missed the FSU game, and had he not made mental errors against UNC, we would be. It is what it is at this point.

Meh, they are simply an above average team, nothing more nothing less.

Meh, they are simply an above average team, nothing more nothing less. Still, beating an above average team on the road is no small thing. Nevada has indeed had quite a respectable program going back many years, mostly under Chris Ault (233-109-1, all at Nevada), who is considered the originator of the pistol offense. And, let's not forget, Nevada has limited resources. They've done a lot with those resources. My fingers will really be crossed for this game. Win it, and an 8-win regular season is not guaranteed but is quite doable. Lose it and SDSU would have to win all but one of the remaining games: Home against Idaho, San Jose State, Air Force, and at Boise in order to win seven. The biggest test of those four, after Boise, will be AFA. I'm hoping at least to reach 7-5; we really do not want to fall back to a 6-6 season after four good years. AzWm

We've beaten our weaker opponents, and a win against a team that many outside San Diego see as superior would be important both for getting into a better Bowl and for recruiting. It would also be helpful locally as beating a good team always helps with the perception of the team among those local football fans who haven't yet bought into the program.

If local football fans haven't bought in yet, few of them will be swept up in a win over UNR. Fairly or unfairly, a win over anybody in the MWC just doesn't move the needle like it used to.

AzWm 6-6 is still bowl eligible isn't it? Wondering if NAU counts as a win for bowl eligibility purposes?? I just want another bowl game. I like watching the Aztecs over the holidays.

I think up to one FCS win can count toward bowl eligibility.

The thought of the Aztecs joining me at the Las Vegas Bowl has certainly resurfaced, but keep in mind, this is the Rocky Long business model. Pad your MW record with wins over inferior opponents while loosing to the tough teams. I know there have been wins against Reno and BSU on the road in recent times but they never equated to an outright MW Championship. I take it one game at a time, but in my opinion nothing short of running the table is going to get the Aztecs to the MW Championship game. And for a Rocky Long team that's a hell of a tall order.
