Going to be in Reno for the SDSU@UNR game. Got two tickets to the game from the Grand Sierra. Just wondering what to expect. Any Aztec tailgates? Are their fans less-than-welcoming? Won't have a car to secure a tailgate spot...If tailgaiting isn't an option are there any bars close by for pre-gaming?
Any info would be appreciated.

will be there!
Went 2 years ago - I'm pretty sure there was an official Aztec tailgate. We hung out with a few other Aztecs we met there and also some UNR fans that were really nice (free food!). Even the prima-cheerleader gave us a friendly 'hi guys' while cursing around the parking lot / tailgate area. Trying to recall, but I think tailgating is your best option (not sure if there are bars in walking distance).
One warning for others if driving - the parking lot crew are more than happy to lift the ropes and let you park in any section you'd like (including reserved), we though we scored premier parking, but the unr fans we tailgated with warned us that they send out dozens of tow trucks about 10 minutes after kick-off. We moved into the parking structure, which is a pain to get out of, but still better than getting towed.

I will be there. Unfortunately I will not have any food to offer, so I may leave the rental at the hotel. I'll be there by myself, so hope to see some Aztecs. I don't seem to get any of the Tailgate announcements, so I guess I am not in the cool club. Post some info if y'all get some word, por favor

The Bay Area chapter is organizing a bus, so there should be quite a few alum up there for the game...

Limited tailgating… good fans. Too bad it is a night game. The Lil' Waldorf Saloon is across the street. After graduating from SDSU, I went to grad school at UNR. I think when I was there, they were still part of the Big West? Things are much improved since then…
I will be there… Aztec loyal!

Thanks for the info. We are going to cab it in there from the hotel but weren't sure of the stadium setup as far as tailgating. Nice to know we can wander around and stumble upon some Aztec alum.

But, I guess that I was too old. I found the"fear of God" spiel I listened to at the beginning of the course lectures to be tedious. All I remember thinking was fail me if you like , but please, please spare me the unnecessary propaganda. (I left the program, incidentally, in good standing when my employer transferred me.) I guess this pretty much cements my fervent desire to see the Aztecs stomp the Virginia Avenue canine pack.

I'll be there! It'd be great to tailgate and throw a few back with some fellow SDSU fans. First time attending an SDSU game @unr. Meant to go to the double OT win but couldn't make it. I'm curious how the UNR fans are with visiting fans, not sure what to expect but it's nice to know there'll be quite a few of us attending. Go Aztecs! This would be a HUGE win..

For those going, should we meet at a bar? Turn one red? I'll be there Friday night, and will be heading to the bar

I planned the trip a few months back and bought tickets cheap on Southwest. Looking forward to seeing fellow Aztecs in Reno.

The Lil' Waldorf Saloon seems like a pretty solid spot, pretty killer that it's just right across the street. I'm up for that or some tailgating, good food and drinks with some Aztec fans is the goal. Hopefully running into a lady or 2 would definitely be a nice pregame bonus too! haha

Looks like the weather will be in the 40's with a possibility of some rain. Layer up and bring something to sit on in those metal stands (blanket, bleacher chair, etc), as I recall that being the one thing I really regret not bringing into the stadium. Those things will freeze your ass right off!

I found a Patagonia outlet that is right on the way from Sac. I concur with sleepy, and layer/waterproof up.
We got nowhere to go, Reno fans do. They will lose some of that home-cooked noise if they start thinking about the comfy couch.

Is the whole stadium metal stands/bleacher type seats? I have no idea where our tickets are since I won't get them until I arrive at the casino on Friday.

Those things will freeze your ass right off! You should have seen the metal bleachers at the Potato bowl last year. 6" of snow on top of 2" of ice and this idiot forgot a blanket to sit on. We survived that experience so we should be good in Reno.

It is supposed to snow a decent amount Friday night and Saturday morning and I would bet there are chain controls going over the pass. The sell chains up there but they don't come cheap.
