The team didn't look ready to play, if they are going to bother with 4 pre season games there shouldn't be THAT many screw ups. Phillip Rivers looked like the lost 4th Stooge.

Cards D was the most aggressive blitzing D I've seen since the 1985 Bears. Chargers receivers dropped too many balls including the last one to Keenan Allen. Cards are good. Bolts, not sure yet.

This marked the perfect trifecta of late game failure for me over the weekend.
Friday, the Panthers had the game won and gave it away at the very end. Saturday, the Aztecs have the game won and gave it away at the end. Then last night the Chargers have the game won and gave it away at the end.
Three for three. What a crappy football weekend for me.

San Diego football teams seem to be the epitome of "close but not quite." Good enough to give fans a warm, fuzzy feeling but not good enough to really win in bunches.

P.Rivers looked, and when his teammates looked at him for assurance, it looked like they were staring down a dark alley on Friday the 13th.

Gotta lay some blame on Frank Reich, although he is a first year playcaller. He failed to make some adjustments in the passing game that would have sealed the deal, IMO. Cardinals are a "good" football team. Bolts will be fine and I think we beat Seattle this weekend.

NFL is a tough league. You have to make plays when they are available. If Marcus Gilchrist makes that interception (right in his hands), we win the game. After he missed, I thought we would lose.

McCoy didn't play his starters much in preseason, especially when it came to Rivers, and they/he played like it. I didn't like the McCoy hire, I don't think he's good game day coach. If I were an opposing DC I would play up and physical and make the Chargers beat you with the long ball. The o-line is not very good (and without Hardwick is even worse) and McCoy's offense is all about getting rid of the ball quickly so as not to expose Rivers to hits. Finally, how do you only give Ryan Matthews 12 carries? Hell, out of 58 plays only 20 were to the RBs (34%)

Watched every minute from start to finish. What people don't realize is the NFL, much like college football, is all about motivational and situational spots. Blowout home opener, going on the road to a team that lost in week 1 screams letdown spot. We'll see.
Seahawks at Centurylink = Great team. Seahawks away from Centurylink = Beatable team.
The Packers are overrated, their offensive line is in shambles (Look out, Aaron) and Lacy now with yet another concussion. I think the Chargers can win Sunday.

Just saw that Hardwick is out for the year (and career might be over as well). Brutal.

Looks like I'm the one who is smoking some crow. I thought between the Bolts having a short week, SEA having a long week (not to mention looking dominant no matter where they play), and Hardwick being gone it was going to be a long day for the Chargers. Goes to show: when you have Rivers (and Gates) you always have a puncher's chance.

Well, I guess I'll share some of that humble pie with you, having pronounced the water birds "light years" ahead of the rest of the league. It must be said that the Chargers played perhaps their best game in years, and were the more prepared team. I had to laugh about the discussion about being prepared for the heat - Chargers hydrated all week and Pete Carroll, by his own account, did nothing to get his team ready for the conditions. When I saw the water birds in their dark uniforms, I knew the heat would have an effect. If course, all will be for naught if the Bolts get full of themselves and don't play very well and beat the Bills this week. Time to open the locks with our Golden Gates and let the Rivers flow.

That was a great call you made. The entire game I thought we would lose. (I was even nervous when we kicked our last field goal. I remember Denver returning our game winning field goal for a TD way back when).

It was more about the spot than anything else. Similar to Virginia Tech/East Carolina in the college ranks. Football (and sports in general) are all about motivation/inspired play.
