Helix v. Del Oro wasn't much of a game!

Vista had Eastlake beaten with three minutes left.
They had the ball around their own 35, 3rd and 10, up by 6, and then the OC called a halfback option. Incomplete, stops the clock. Next the coaches have the team huddled on the sideline too long planning out the punt, and they get a delay of game. The punt is shanked and Eastlake has the ball with two and a half minutes at their own 49. Unable to pass all night, they suddenly find their passing game and score on a 20 yard pass & run (the pass was absolutely perfect, lobbed just over the defender and right into the receiver's arms, and he outruns the DB into the end zone for th ewinning score).
Eastlake 17, Vista 16.
Vista's defense played very well all night long but they were on the field for most of the game (the time of possession was probably 32 minutes to 16 in favor of Eastlake). Vista's offense just couldn't get going. Eastlake looked good, but not like world beaters. Vista just needs work on the O-Line, at QB, and they need someone to step up and be the #1 running back. (They've got 3 or 4 capable #2 running backs, but no one capbable of taking over a game or breaking a long TD run.) If Vista can get just 17 points per game out of their offense they could be a 7-3 type team. If not? 6-4 or 5-5.

Eric, sorry that your kids lost the game, but that they played them even is a good sign. I believe there are moral victories in HS football, especially in pre-league games.
