This team, this program, is even worse than I, personally, thought it was. Frankly, I am for the first time not sure that we will ever be more than a 4-6 win team.
This I know. 2010 will be crucial. Somehow, some way, we must at least break even. But 6-6, which I think is by no means assured, will not do much to resurrect the program.
Heaven help Brady Hoke and his staff as they try to convince a few more 3-star athletes that they should sign on to this sinking ship. We are far, far, from being able even to challenge the top three MWC teams, and we are only marginally capable of putting up a fight against a fourth (AFA). That means that S.DS.U. almost surely will lose 4 games in conference next year. And somewhere, some how, we will lose at least another game to one of the mediocre to bad MWC members.
I have followed Aztec FB since 1961 and I have never been so discouraged about the future of this program. Curse? I don't know how else to explain this late season collapse. Such a steak of futility could not have come at a worse time. Anybody care to wager that attendance will break 15,000 other than the Sky Show game?
What is really bad is that any buzz the arrival of Brady Hoke may have aroused will be gone next year. Some fans say he needs four or five years to build a winner. Perhaps so. I can't see this program surviving another two or three years such as we have seen recently.

PS: For what it's worth, Tom Craft's 2003 and 2005 Aztec teams remain the most successful this school has had in the past ten seasons.
