I was watching the news tonight and saw that the Ken Theater in Kensington will be closing on the 27th of this month as the lease was not renewed. Three days after that,Ricky's Restaurant in Hotel Circle right off the I-8 is also shutting its doors for good as the hotel that encircles the restaurant has decided to expand.Good hot food at a good price,and one of the few breakfast places that doesn't use prepped (frozen) hash browns.Theirs are fresh and shaved.I hate seeing the independent places go,particularly good diners.
Just thought I'd let some of you long-timers know.

Yeah,I went and saw the Bettie Page movie at the Ken a few months ago,and I'm going to try to hit Ricky's as much as I can between now and the 30th.  |

Well,Landmark Theaters will still have at least two locations here for independent films,but it's still kind of sad to see another local landmark bite the dust.Chains have their place,but...

I have great memories watching the animated film festivals at the Ken.
Gone the way of the Roxy, The Cove, The Fine Arts and the Clairemont theaters.
Very sad.

I have great memories watching the animated film festivals at the Ken. Gone the way of the Roxy, The Cove, The Fine Arts and the Clairemont theaters. Very sad. Can't believe I sat a few feet away from Peter Tosh at the Roxy years ago. That was a tremendous show! |

Have not been to the Ken in 20 years, went last night. Man is that place run down!! Dirty floor, deteriorating walls in areas. Unless that place gets a little TLC soon, it is gone for sure!!
